3rd person pov

dorothea now stood out in the hallway with coriolanus as he handed her a piece of the bread in his hand and she ate it. before they heard footsteps and someone clearing their throat. dorothea turned around and she saw casca standing there. he nodded at dorothea and she took the hint, she pat corios arm before she walked off and away from them.

she looked around for sejanus as she was walking around but she could not find him. she understood that he probably felt bad about the whole situation buts she wanted to remind him that it wasn't his fault because it wasn't. this was the capitol, it was kill or be killed and sometimes you had to choose the first option and not the latter .

this is when she decided that she should just get back to coriolanus so he could walk her home and she could go back to her "happy house" but it wasn't happy and it wasn't a house. it was not a home either, it was where the women who gave birth to her and the man who helped form her lived but it wasn't a home and it never was.

the sound of doors slamming or things being thrown or calls for help, or the sound of her mother crying on the other side of the door that she could never open in fear that her father would do something. they do say that blood runs thicker then water but in this case, they both feel the same when your eyes are closed and she knew that.

her and her mother were of the same branch but not of the same tree and that was what dorothea knew. when they moved to the capitol, her father grew a sense of arrogance and power which turned him into the man he was. thomas castial was not the man she grew to love and she could see that now.

if she went home and told him who she was right now, she would abused and murdered to the point of no one knowing who she was and it would be like she got thrown into the arena when that would not be the case and it never was. she hid herself for as long as she could and she continued to do that in anyway possible.

if that meant going to the snows house or always staying after or volunteering she did something and she felt bad for rachel because she didn't deserve that. dorothea had a plan and she would succeed but she needed rachel in on the plan and the only way to do that was to get her away from thomas, which was not an idea as he clung to her as if she was the water in the ocean and he was swimming in the middle.

so going home right now was not an option but going home with coriolanus to see tigris and talk about everything was , which is exactly what she was going to do. she walked back to him and she pressed her hand on his arm to remind him that she was there and with that, they left the school and went back to their home.

she now sat next to tigris as the women braided dorotheas hair and they watched coriolanus pace back and forth in front of them. they stared at him as he spoke and dorothea couldn't help but want to stop him from talking but she didn't. she sat there and listened to him ramble like it was nothing.

"he's sabotaging us. both of us. neither of those girls are gonna win these games thea, you saw them. they're underfed and unstable" he told her and she stared

"okay well he said that's its not about winning" dorothea tried to reason but he didn't hear her or see her side.

"everything is about winning. if not the games now then the crowd. lucy gray wont survive a minute inside that arena" he said and dorothea spoke up

"you don't know that" she stated and he turned to her

"and how do you know that?" he asked her and she didn't want to expose the truth but she had to

"shes my girlfriend dumbass and i can tell you that she is one hell of a fighter and she will do anything in that arena even if you don't believe that. my tribute may not have a fighting chance but she is just a kid as is most the other people in that god damn arena so I'm going to do my best to keep my tribute alive, plinth prize or not" she told him and he stared at her in shock. he had known about her being a lesbian since they were ten and she came out to him randomly one day but lucy gray? that was a new change.

"shes district dorothea" he told her and she scoffed

"and you forget i used to be district too. that's how i met her. i have to go home so i can meet my tribute tomorrow and make her feel more welcome so goodnight tigris, goodnight coriolanus" she exclaimed and she grabbed her stuff as she left the house and touched her ear. the ringing was back, and she hated it. the ringing showed up slightly when her father began to throw things and yell, it hurt her ears but then one night, he hit her in the ear and it burst her eardrum. she had never gotten it fixed as district hospitals don't do much for such injuries and so she had to deal with a bursted eardrum and a slight lack of hearing in her right ear. every once in a while, her ear gets a high-pitched ringing sound and she hates it because it reminds her of what happened when she was younger and how she couldn't stop it. she couldn't stop him hitting her or bursting her eardrum and now she couldn't stop the ringing. many times when it happens shes in public and she has to cover it up by saying her knee hurts or something else hurts as she clearly makes a face of pain but she still covers it due to her not wanting people to look at her or her family different. she didn't want people to see the truth of the castial house and she didn't want anyone to know who thomas castial truly was so she hid it as she hid everything else about their family to the outside world. the ringing would never go away and she knew that but she hated having the ringing in her ear but she had to deal with it.

she would have to deal with it for the rest of her life as she would also have to deal with the games and her father and everything bad in the world that she couldn't stop but she wanted to stop and now she was walking straight into one of those situations which she hated but she had to do for the greater good.

she didn't know what would happen or how wovey would react to her but she had a plan. dorothea was sunshine to everyone and she would do anything to protect wovey but she wouldn't know until the next morning.

hopefully the next morning would be different and she would feel better but she would only know then and only then.
