3rd person pov
she didn't go home because there was no reason to. she hadn't found out about coriolanus and the fact that he had been caught cheating when she knew that it had nothing to do with her and thank god. being able to give the families money without cheating made her feel good. but she knew that her family would find out and hate her for it forever, going home might just send her back to her true home. so she took a deep breathe and she walked inside
"WHAT DID YOU DO WITH ALL THAT MONEY?" her father yelled and she scoffed with a laugh and a shake of her head. she knew that this would happen and she couldn't be more grateful.
"I did what you wouldn't do, I gave it to the families of the tribute to died. I did the one good thing that people should be doing so if you wanna send me away, go ahead." she stated and her mother scoffed
"why would you do that? You know we needed that money" she told her and dorothea shook her head
"no you think you need that money but you really don't. You bought your way into the capitol and I never wanted to be here in the first place. I just became a mentor to the little girl I took care of for my entire childhood, and she died. Too many people die every year because of these stupid, fucking games, and everyone is so interested in watching them, but they're not interested in helping these people are saving them so for the entire day I went to the district and I gave the families money or food or water resources because they should know that someone in the capitail doesn't want them dead. Their children died, and you may not care about yours, but they sure as hell cared about theirs" she told them and they made eye contact with each other
"you wanna be sent away? Do you wanna go back to the district where you had no running water you had no food?" he threatened and she smiled with a scoff and a shake of her head
"honestly, it would sure be staying here with some deadbeat parents who can't even understand that their daughter never wanted this life for herself in the first place and that she never wanted them. if you wanna send me back there, go ahead because those families don't have anything against me now I helped them I did what I needed to do and I made sure that someone cares. So do what you have to do?" she stated and that's where she landed herself on a train sitting next to the window with her hair tied up and a uniform on.
she got up to walk around and then she heard voices in the other carriage so she opened the door and walked in only to see sejanus and coriolanus. they turned and looked at her
"Dorothea? What are you doing here you didn't get in trouble. You didn't get caught cheating?" coriolanus asked
"well when you sneak out of your house and give the families of the tribute money and food and water and resources because they lost their kids apparently your parents get really pissed off and decide to send you back to a district. I broke their rules and they threatened to send me back and I said they could and they did. I don't know why they think this is bad considering my whole thing about the fact that I never wanted to be in the capitol anyways but here I am" she told them
"you gave money to the families?" sejanus asked and she nodded
"they lost their kids, they deserve to have something" she told him and he smiled brightly at her
"what are you doing here though?" dorothea asked
"well, after what I did in the arena, my father had to buy Academy of brand new gym just so I could get my diploma but once I found out where they were sending you, I couldn't get out fast enough. Barely made the train because of the stupid knee. They gave me some morphling for the pain." he told them
"so what I'm hearing is you both volunteered for this?" he asked them and dorothea made eye contact with sejanus.
"I figure I get through basic and then maybe I become a medic. Make a real difference out there. They never told us what you did." sejanus told him
"i cheated. To save Lucy Gray from the snakes. Do you think they killed her?" he asked and dorothea shuttered
"why would they risk it? She was a big hit. If there is a game next year, they're probably gonna invite her to sing at the opening ceremony" sejanus said and coriolanus looked at her
"do you think they did it?" he asked her and she shook her head
"she's my girlfriend, so I wanna believe that they didn't but I don't know" she exclaimed
"shes your girlfriend?" sejanus asked
"yeah, we hit it pretty well didn't we?" she questioned and he laughed as he nudged her and nodded
"you know when you came in I was weighing the merits of suicide" coriolanus told the duo
"we're about to be free? When the girl you risked everything for might be waiting for you two at the end of the track? My friend, don't give them the satisfaction. Your life has just begun. You're gonna do great. All three of us are going to do great." he said
"just be careful, OK?" he asked and then they all looked at the window as they got to the station of 12 and got out. they looked at each other and then around.
this was their new beginning and it was all gonna change.
