I didn't understand.
The second our lives change for the better, I'm not even going to be here to see it?
How fucked up was that.
I stared in the mirror, fixing my hair slightly. Jaw clenched and hands stiff, I sighed.
Moon came out of the bathroom, her hair curled. She wore a pink bodycon that exposed her baby bump and she'd just finished putting on makeup.
"The reception's an hour away," Moon said, walking up to me to also look into the mirror. "Ostrich just sent me the address, so we have to go soon." She stopped when she saw my expression. "We'll talk more when we get home," she gently said.
I ran a hand through the hair I had spent five minutes fixing.
"Don't," I calmly said.
Moon looked up at me. "Don't what?"
"Don't worry about it," I elaborated. "The future, I mean. Just stay in the moment. With me." I could tell she wanted to say something to counter that, but for my sake, she didn't.
Instead, she reached forward and fixed my tie. "Alright," she said. I kissed her forehead and then let her pull away. After a moment, she asked, "Do you think Deathbringer will show?"
"Hard to say," I mumbled. "I mean, what are the odds that the marriage would land on the week of the funeral?" Deathbringer and Glory were both spending the week in Florida because that's where the funeral would be held so that all of their friends and family could attend. I was sure they were both invited, but if they come is a mystery.
I glanced down at Moon's stomach. Twins. A flutter of joy embraced me, but it was soon washed away at the thought of not being there to see them grow up.
We can beat the odds, a part of me hoped. We've done it before. We'll do it again. Besides... nine times out of ten visions aren't accurate.
Oh, I hope.
Moon and I went downstairs and I grabbed my keys from the counter.

The wedding was beautiful. A chandelier hung from the elevated roof. A pastor stood in between Ostrich and Cryptic, holding what seemed to be a book of law. He was speaking, but I was barely paying attention.
Beside me, Moon was sitting excitedly, squeezing my hand. It's been a little while since Moon and Ostrich hung out, but Moon was happy for her nonetheless.
Around us, there were people we didn't know, people Ostrich had met and gotten close to. I let the beauty of it soak in.
Potentially the last wedding I attend.
Then another thought approached me.
Oh. Our anniversary.
Shoot.
Eventually, the bride walked down the aisle right beside the groom, and the crowd stood up to clap and take pictures. At that very moment, I hated weddings. It was the start of Ostrich's life whereas mine was going to end.
I wasn't trying to be a pessimistic mood-kill, but it was kind of hard not to be when you knew you were going to die right as your life changed for the better.

Guests were up and walking up to the groom and bride to give them gifts or just speak to them. It was our turn, and Moon excitedly walked forward toward the table, holding a gift eagerly.
