"Well we have to decide now, people!" Cyclone said sharply. "What the hell do we do? If we don't decide soon, we'll all die!"

"Shut up so I can think!" Sundew shouted. My arms tightened around Qibli's neck as they all pressed their backs against each other's. Droopy hands reached for us as the horde of people staggered toward us at full speed. Were we going to die just because we didn't want to kill them?

Willow suddenly screamed, and we all turned to see her staggering back, straying from the protective circle we had made. One of the assailants—a woman seemingly in her late 40s—grabbed Willow's shoulders and bashed her skull into hers, making Willow loose her balance and stagger to the ground, clearly disoriented as blood seeped from her nose.

"Willow!" Sundew didn't even seem to care anymore and raised the gun, shooting the attacker straight into her temple. A moment later, she collapsed, dead. Nobody could even scold her for killing the woman, because in all honesty, they needed to defend themselves more than anything. Sundew grabbed Willow's arm and helped her into standing, but Willow seemed too dizzy and placed a hand on her head, gripping Sundew tightly.

"Okay, get on my back," Sundew ordered, shoving the gun into Luna's hands as she crouched in front of Willow before hauling her up onto her back. Willow wrapped her arms around Sundew's neck and was quietly murmuring, as if it was too hard to form coherent sentences.

"M-me?" Luna asked.

"Shoot who you have to!" Sundew ordered. And Swordtail quickly took it from her and started shooting the closest ones, round after round until he tried to fire and the gun didn't react. That was the last of their ammunition. Guppy was still wailing into Cyclone's shoulder as she clung desperately to him, shivering.

"Moon, to your right." My head snapped to the right, and sure enough there was a path that wasn't completely infested, meaning that was our best chance at escape.

"Qibli," I said quickly, and he looked down to eye me worriedly. "There! Look." I pointed and he saw, before turning to the others.

"You guys," he said, stepping in the general direction of the path with me still in his arms.

Luna's face lit up. She grabbed Swordtail. "Let's go!"

"Wait!" He had a right to worry, because although it was true the path held less Corrupted, it was also too dark to see what lied beyond that. Would we just get bombarded again and be forced into making another split-second decision?

"We don't have much of a choice!" Sundew said as she hiked Willow further up her back. "I'm going! Whoever wants to come can follow!" But Qibli was already taking the lead, maneuvering quickly and efficiently with me in his arms. Sundew followed shortly after, and Cyclone wasted no time with Guppy in his arms. Eventually Swordtail accepted that staying in place wasn't the best choice and took Luna's hand, chasing after us.

It wasn't long before the herd of Corrupted began chasing us, but were were a lot quicker and a lot smarter, and frankly, we had a mind of our own. A disadvantage for us, though, was that we were in open fields, meaning there weren't many places for us to hide at all. Still, it was a test of endurance, meaning we had yet another disadvantage.

"This isn't looking too good!" Cyclone said, briefly glancing over his shoulder before upping his pace. "D'ya think the host is nearby if he's controlling so many at a time?"

"It's a possibility," Qibli shouted back, glancing down at me in his arms before frowning at the Corrupted behind him.

"We just gotta go!" Swordtail shouted.
