I was quick to react—rising to my feet in an instant and bolting up the stairs. I skittered to a stop in front of our bedroom door and kicked it open hastily.

Crap. I was right.

And just to make matters worse, the person had a pistol pointed straight at Moon's temple, holding her in a headlock as he kept her facing the door.

Shaggy white hair. A toothy grin. A scar going along his right eye. Despite his much more aged appearance, it was undeniable.

It's... Leopard.

My arm immediately flies up, pointing my gun straight at his head.

"Woah, woah," he chuckled, his grin only widening and serving to piss me off even more. "I'm just here to talk. Is that so much to ask?"

I scoff, not lowering my gun. "Well, when you have my wife at gunpoint, hearing you out is kinda out of the question, don't ya think?" Alright, Qibli, think. What could Leopard's motive be? Figure a way out—find a loophole. If he could put that gun down, then that would be one obstacle out of the way. As long as Moon is at gunpoint, my options are limited—Leopard knows that and is using it to his advantage.

Dammit.

Leopard chuckled once more. "Before we start things off, don't think I'll be afraid to shoot her. I think we both know I'm only still doing this to get revenge and to get Moon back, but if I can't have her, taking her out completely is still an option. My love for her just runs that deep. Don't you think it's admirable?"

I cocked a brow. Maybe I'll stall until I can come up with something that'll guarantee victory. "Your possessiveness isn't really something to be proud of." I took a small step forward. "Just put the gun down. Violence isn't always the answer."

Leopard barked a laugh. "Violence isn't always the answer? Yet when you thought someone broke into your house, the first thing you decided to do was grab a gun. Am I wrong?" He tightened his arm around Moon's neck, who choked slightly.

Though the room was still relatively dark, the light bouncing off the moon illuminated the room enough so that we could clearly see each other. That crazed look in his eyes. He has no intention of backing down.

"Question for you," I murmured, taking another small step forward.

The white-haired man smiled. "Ask away."

"Deathbringer..." I began slowly, "...informed me about something. There was a school shooting a few months ago at his kids' school. Do you know about it?"

Leopard raised an eyebrow. He fiddled dangerously with the trigger of the gun he was holding, making me insanely uneasy. "I'm not seeing how that correlates to this."

I scoffed. "How is it that you can control people?" Maybe getting straight to the point wasn't the smartest idea, but maybe I could get information while I was here. "First there was a boating incident. Glory and the rest of her family claimed that Deathbringer wasn't acting like himself. In the end, they ended up stranded at sea, but since the boat they were on hadn't gone far, they managed to make it back to land safely. Later on, Deathbringer was found with something unusual in his blood. Any idea what that was?"
