Getting Past The Shell

It's been a few weeks since I first joined T.D.E, so far the guys really like me and think I'm funny. I don't understand what's so funny about what I say. I'm serious. The only person I don't seem to get along with is Q. God, it's like if I say the world is round, he would come up with any way to prove me wrong. We argue constantly and the only time we seem to be on the same side is when we're high. Yeah, after joining the group I started smoking weed again. I used to smoke it a lot in high school. It got me through the long days and the stress of being a perfect daughter. They seem so amazed that I can smoke weed so well, I never cough and I can talk with smoke coming out my throat... Oh when I do "O"s they seem to go crazy. Sometimes I do it just for their silly reactions. This is the first time I actually felt like part of a family, I just hope they don't see how happy I am to be here.

(They all sit at a round table with some uno cards, while passing a blunt around)

Q: (scats) She-be-de-datdada, that's how she had me last night nigga. I almost started tap dancing how good she was giving me brain dawg... (They all laugh)

Ab: Shut up nigga and play..

Jay: Why we playing uno in the first place ?

Kendrick: Because Q dumbass left the good cards at his crib. I told his ass before he left to bring them..

Q: Didn't I just tell yall I was getting head before I came here, yall better be glad I even came...

Ab: (Looks at May) What's wrong with yo ass?

May: (Blows out smoke and passes blunt to Q) What you mean?

Ab: You haven't said shit all night, I forgot you was here for a second...

Q: She alright, that weed got her quiet. You good, right may.

May: Yeah, (rubs her nose) what y'all doing for Thanks Giving. It's next week right...

Q: I'm spending it with my baby girl and my baby mama... Only reason I'm going to even try to put up with her ass is because of the food... Ab you still coming right..

Ab: Hell yeah, my folks and yo folks will be there...

May: What about y'all? ( Looks at Kendrick and Jay)

Jay: I'm going back to my hood... Make sure they eating good this season and be with the fam. (Puffs on blunt)

Kendrick: Same (Looks at Jay), what you doing tho ? (Looks at May)

May: (Fake chuckles a little) I'll be in the studio, I gotta get this album out you know...( plays her card )

Kendrick: (Looks at her like she's stupid) Uh, even I go see my people..

May: I might go...

( 2 Hours later of playing uno and laughing at Q's theory on why hoes don't ever get sick, slowly everyone started to go home )...

Kendrick's POV:

May: ( cleans up table and pushes in chairs )... ( chuckles a little)

Kendrick: (comes out kitchen and walks towards her) So, just us now huh.. You tired ?

May: No, why?

Kendrick: Want to do some cliche white people shit ?

May: (laughs) Depends on what it is, I refuse to watch " The Breakfast Club"...

Kendrick: (laughs) Nah, let's go on the roof and try to understand what's the meaning of love...

May: (imitates a white girl's voice ) "Love doesn't exist, so why even try"...

Kendrick: (laughs hard) We need to stop... (Pushes her outside)

They both end up on the roof and above them are sky full of beautiful planes..

May: (lays back) This shit is pathetic... (Looks up)

Kendrick:(laughs) I don't know why you make me laugh so much.. I think it's your voice...

May: Excuse me? (Squints eyes)

Kendrick: Not like that May, you just country as hell...

May: (folds arms) Whatever...

Kendrick: Andre told me you don't have a family... What happened? (Sits up and looks at her)

May: You care?

Kendrick: Maybe a little, I always had my family.. It just sounds weird for a person to not have that.. I don't know what I would do without them you know...

May: (Looks at him) ...

Kendrick: Sorry... You know you can come with me to my family and spend thanks giving with us..

May: ... (Continues looking at him)

Kendrick: ?

May: Thank you.

Kendrick: (hands her my hoodie)... Yeah.
