#02 | TROUBLE — birds of a feather , billie eilish " Why are you back so late? "
HAEUN TRIED HER best to be as quiet as she possibly could as she entered her house. She shut the door carefully behind her, slipping out of her sneakers and tiptoeing through the hallway.
Just as she was about to take her first step on the stairs, her moms voice was audible. "Haeun?" Haeun let out a defeated sigh, turning back and walking into the living area.
"Haeun, how was school-" her moms sweet voice was overrun by her dads much domineering one. "Cha Haeun! Why are you back so late?!"
Haeun plopped down onto the couch, the blouse of her school uniform sticking to her back. "I went to the mall with Rei." Haeun's mom sat next to her dad on the other couch, smiling. "Aww Rei, what a sweet girl."
"You know we got your report card today, Haeun" her dad said, and Haeun mentally cussed. School had never been easy for her. Especially with her parents being such successful individuals, she felt like there was more stress added to her.
"Dad, you know I tried-" Haeun began, but her dad cut her off. "You have more fails than passes! Imagine what will happen when people find out the daughter of two renowned app developers did not pass her grade twelve exams?! Imagine how embarrassing it will be to your mother and I!"
Haeun pouted. "You are going into your final year of high school soon," he continued. "And I want you to do something about these grades. It's atrocious" he spat.
"Your fathers right," Haeun's mom agreed. "With these grades, no university is going to accept you. We're only saying this for your own well-being" she ended with a small smile.
Haeun nodded. She was used to her parents using this excuse. "I promise my grades next semester will be better" she sighed. Her dad cracked a rare smile. "That's nice to hear."
"Now," he checked the time on his watch. "It's almost ten o'clock." Haeun's mom looked towards him. "What time does the new app launch?" she asked. "Exactly midnight." he said.
Haeun looked up at her parents. "Dad, is this the breakthrough you've been hinting at?" she asked, and her father nodded. "Your mother and my team and I have been working on this app for two years."
Haeun stood up. "Well, I'm heading to sleep!" she said, walking over to the kitchen and taking a water bottle out of the fridge. "Stay awake till midnight honey," she heard her mom say. "Watch the launch."
