Ever since the incident during lunch, the entire university couldn't stop talking about it. Judith and Gabriel's altercation had become the highlight of everyone's week, fueling endless gossip that annoyed the hell out of Judith. It felt like she had become the Kim Kardashian of this world, with her every move scrutinized as if her life was a reality show.
Judith's POV
"Why is my life everyone's entertainment?" I muttered under my breath, slinging my backpack over one shoulder as I walked down the hallway. Students flattened themselves against the walls as I passed, like I was about to attack them or something. I rolled my eyes. They were being so dramatic.
It was obvious they were talking about me. The whispers trailed behind me, bits and pieces of the same gossip I'd been hearing all week:
"Have you heard?! Gabriel and Judith broke up!"
"Seriously?! Weren't they engaged?"
"Not anymore, I think. They had a fight during lunch on the first day of school!"
"Really?! What happened?"
"Judith slapped Gabriel and poured a drink on his head!"
"Oh my god! That actually happened?!"
"Yeah! And there's something else too!"
"What is it?"
"There's a rumor Gabriel is going after Judith's younger sister! They were seen going to his dorm room together!"
"OMG! No f*cking way!"
"Yeah! Right after lunch too!"
"You think they..."
"I think so too..."
I tuned out the rest of their conversation. They weren't even trying to be discreet. So Gabriel invited Verona to his dorm room, huh? I didn't care what they did together. They were literally created to be together in this novel world. What I needed to focus on was becoming independently wealthy so I could cut these people out of my new life for good.
A week had passed since the incident, and most people gave me a wide berth, except those who had to share classes with me. Unfortunately, Gabriel and I shared several classes due to having the same major. I moved from sitting next to him to sitting as far away as possible, which shocked my classmates.
I could change majors, but the original Judith was already two years into her Business degree. I didn't want to suffer through more school. I didn't need a Computer Science degree anyway—I already had one in my past life. If I wanted to start my own company, a Business degree might be useful... but maybe I didn't need it. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg all dropped out of college and started billion-dollar companies. Maybe I could too.
It would definitely anger my so-called parents if I dropped out, but did I care? No! They were the original Judith's parents, not mine. As I pondered whether to drop out, my path was suddenly blocked, halting my progress down the hall.
I looked up in surprise to see three familiar faces: Hillary, Jennifer, and Miranda—the original Judith's plastic friends. The three girls stared at me, arms crossed, their expressions unreadable.
I awkwardly cleared my throat. "Hello Plastic 1, 2, 3—uh, I mean, hi guys!" I greeted them with forced cheer.
"Judy, we haven't seen you around in a week. We need to talk," said Hillary, her tone serious.
