The group left the mall, their excitement palpable as they hopped back into Xavier's car. The beach was only a short drive away, and the decision had been so spontaneous that none of them had packed swimsuits. As soon as they parked by the beach, they rushed to the nearest shop to buy some.
"Do you guys want to play some beach volleyball?" Charles suggested before they split.
Liam nodded eagerly. "Sounds good. I'm in!"
"Yeah!" the others chorused before heading off to shop.
Inside the small beach store, brightly colored swimsuits lined the walls, and the girls immediately scattered to find something that suited them. Hillary grabbed a tropical-themed bikini, Jennifer eyed a sleek one-piece, and Miranda picked out a bold red bikini that turned heads as soon as she held it up. Judith, after much deliberation, settled on a deep navy bikini with a simple but elegant design that complemented her figure perfectly.
While the girls sifted through the racks, the guys had already made their picks and quickly changed into their swim trunks. Zayden, Liam, Charles, and Xavier stood outside the changing rooms, waiting for the girls.
"How do girls take so long to pick out clothes?" Liam joked, leaning against the wall.
"It's a mystery of the universe, my friend," Xavier replied with a smirk. He shifted his gaze toward the dressing rooms, looking a little anxious.
Zayden stood quietly, his eyes occasionally drifting toward the fitting rooms, anticipating Judith's appearance. He had always admired her intellect when it came to their project, but something about seeing her in swimwear made his heart race. He tried to play it cool, but his palms were sweating.
The guys continued to wait patiently, chatting idly, when the door to the changing area swung open.
Hillary, Jennifer, Miranda, and Judith stepped out, and suddenly, the guys went silent. The sight of them in their swimsuits left them blushing, unable to hide their reactions.
Liam nudged Zayden with his elbow. "Dude, stop staring," he whispered, though he couldn't help glancing back at Hillary himself.
But Zayden wasn't paying attention to Liam. His eyes were fixed on Judith, her swimsuit showing off her confident, relaxed demeanor in a way that left him momentarily speechless. Judith noticed his stare and felt her cheeks flush. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her heart beating rapidly.
"Ready for volleyball?" she asked, trying to break the tension.
Zayden blinked, snapping out of his daze. "Y-Yeah! Let's go!"
The group strolled down the sandy beach, setting up a net for a game of volleyball. They started with the guys versus the girls, the game quickly becoming competitive as everyone's playful side took over.
Judith leaped to spike the ball, her competitive spirit on full display. Zayden admired her athleticism but was determined to win. Liam, meanwhile, was yelling encouragement to the guys, trying to keep up with the girls' surprisingly strong teamwork.
The match went back and forth, but the girls narrowly won the first game. Judith high-fived Jennifer, both of them laughing as the guys groaned in defeat.
"Alright, rematch! This time, mixed teams," Zayden suggested, not ready to give up yet.
They decided to switch it up: two guys and two girls on each team. Zayden and Judith ended up on the same team, along with Liam and Hillary. Facing them were Xavier, Miranda, Charles, and Jennifer.
The match began, and the energy skyrocketed. Zayden and Judith worked seamlessly together, their movements in sync as they passed the ball between them. Every time their eyes met after a successful play, Judith felt her heart skip a beat. She couldn't help but notice the way Zayden smiled when they scored a point.
