Satya studied her star employee, the one who was always an overachiever. She leaned back, her hands resting on the desk behind her, trying to read Krithika's face and figure out if the accusations were true.
Why would she do this? It was hard to wrap her head around.
"Satya?" Xavier's voice sliced through her thoughts, deep and steady.
He's pissed.
This wasn't something Satya would let slide, and certainly not Xavier. They had all their systems in place, and if this was true, how the hell didn't the QA department catch something like this? Was hacking into each other's files just a normal Tuesday? This was a major security breach.
Satya shook her head in disbelief and turned her gaze back to Krithika. "Krithika, are you guilty of what Mr. Joseph just accused you of?"
Krithika stood there, head hanging low. Was she too embarrassed to even look them in the eye?
"Ma'am, I..." she started, her voice shaky.
Satya could feel the nerves radiating off her. "Go on," she encouraged.
"I didn't use her computer to get any information," Krithika paused, clearly struggling for the right words. "I... I was just messing around, trying to... it was just a harmless pr—"
"Enough," Xavier cut her off, pushing his chair back as he stood up. "There will be disciplinary action taken."
He turned to Satya, his voice calm, but the anger was there, simmering underneath. "We need to look into this. This is bad."
He's seriously pissed.
Satya sighed deeply. "Krithika, if you've got anything else to say, now's the time."
There was nothing but silence.
"I'm disappointed in you, Krithika," Satya said with a sharp click of her tongue, waving her hand in dismissal. "Get out."
Once Krithika left, Xavier started pacing back and forth, his jaw clenched. Satya couldn't help but feel a little uneasy watching him so on edge. "Xav, she's just young," she said, trying to calm the tension.
He stopped in his tracks and shot her a glare. "Irresponsible—that's what she is."
He wasn't wrong. Young or old, nobody should be that careless. They worked with high-profile clients, clients who'd sue them for millions if even a hint of sensitive information got out.
