"What do we got?" Matt asked, already pulling out an assault rifle.
"Three." Shannon said. "Coming right at us."
"Black Lincoln Navigators. Standard issue Nest vehicles. So cliche." Jenna said as she strapped on a vest.

"Couldn't fucking wait til we got there?" Shaun grumbled.
The trucks were speeding right towards them with no signs of slowing down.
They had run into a battle before the war that they were not expecting.

Phil unpacked his sniper rifle and took cover behind the wrecked Bronco. Matt moved his truck behind it as well. They were already down one vehicle, if his truck got damaged the mission was over.

Phil tweaked his scope before letting out a slow exhale.
"You pulled up on the wrong group of people." He whispered.
He felt a drop of sweat run off his eyebrow, yet he didn't flinch. Then, he fired a lone shot. The bullet connected with the front tire of one of the Navigators on the far right.

The speed it was traveling caused an immediate blowout and sent it flying into the air. It made Jenna's crash look like nothing as the black Lincoln flipped so many times they lost count. It finally came to a stop on its side about fifty feet from them.

The other two vehicles came to a sudden halt and armed men filed out and took cover behind them. They were soldiers from the Nest wearing all black tactical gear. Four came out of each car. Eight men. They should have brought more.

"Put Tyler in my truck!" Matt yelled.
Shaun escorted the him back to the truck and put him on the floor. He covered him with a bulletproof vest.
"Stay down." Shaun told the little boy, calmly.
Tyler nodded and covered his face with a vest.
Then it began.

There was no way of telling who shot first but gunfire echoed throughout the beautiful clear landscape.
Jenna's overturned car made for decent cover. But that was pretty much the ONLY cover they would get. They didn't want to draw attention to Matt's truck, Tyler was in there and they needed it to get to the Nest.

Matt peeked around the side of the truck just in time to see one of the guards take a headshot from one of his friends, killing him instantly.
He looked over at Casey, it was she who had fired. The guards had assault rifles as well, making it somewhat of a fair fight. But Sam was about to give them an advantage.

She held out a pipe bomb, courtesy of their good friend Zipper, and Shannon lit the wick. Sam threw it directly under one of the SUV's. The men saw it and scurried away. As they did Matt and Shaun picked off whoever was remaining. The truck exploded. The impact sent not just the guards flying back but Matt and his friends as well.

With their ears ringing they got up and went on the offensive. They moved like a tactical team of their own, advancing on their enemy and picking them off one by one until the shooting finally stopped.
"Check the bodies." Matt ordered. He raised his gun and marched forward.
"Clear!" Phil yelled.

A single shot rang out. They looked over, alarmed, only to see that Sam had finished off one of the men who laid wounded. Hate filled her eyes. Everyone from the Nest was her enemy. They had all killed Gavin. She had carried her own weight today, not bad for a teenager. The use of the pipe bomb was the main reason why they all survived.

Shannon was over by the wrecked Lincoln that Phil had taken out before the fighting started.
"I got one." She called out. She jammed the tip of her gun against the man's temple.

Shaun roughly pulled the injured guard out of the vehicle. That he even survived that crash was a miracle. He had been the one who was driving. His friend in the passenger seat was dead from the crash. They were the only two that had been in there.
Matt picked the surviving man up and slammed him up against the car.
