Matt straightened up the living room a little. He hadn't had much time or motivation to do it since Casey's death. He had to tell himself he couldn't slip back into that funk like he did when Amy died. His friends would never let him anyway.
He looked at the stack of mail on the side table next to the couch and groaned. He hated paying bills, not because of the money aspect, just sitting down to do it was annoying.
Tyler came running in the room, excited that they were going over to Shannon's parent's house and he could see Sierra again. Tonight was going to be the first time all his friends were together in the same place since the night they took down the Nest. Ben and Mary were making a big dinner for everyone. They were all there already so Matt and Tyler needed to get going.
Matt had given Gavin the keys to his SUV to pick up Sam, and Phil had picked up and rode over with Jenna.
"Dad let's go, I wanna see Sierra!" Tyler whined.
"You just saw her yesterday." Matt replied with a laugh.
"Yesterday was a long time ago."
Matt shook his head laughing. His son was in love already. They were heading out the door when he glanced down at the table with the mail on it again. He noticed a thin postcard near the top of the stack that was sticking out. He grabbed it with his two fingers and slid it out.
On the front was the picture of a green mountain and a waterfall. He flipped it over but the back was blank. Odd, he thought. He looked at the front again and saw the location in the top right hand corner: MAUI, HAWAII
It couldn't be. Could it? He let out a laugh out of pure shock and overwhelming happiness. He started to get one of those feelings again in his stomach. He couldn't believe it.
He could doubt it, think it was coincidence, or just some cruel joke. But deep down, he knew. It had been a conversation that only he and Casey had known about. He knew it that moment that somehow, by some miracle, she was alive.
"Hey Tyler, how bout we go on a vacation?"
"Yes!" He screamed in agreement. "Where are we gonna go, dad?"
"I was thinking Hawaii."
