SOMEWHERE AROUND THE PACIFIC OCEAN
The young waiter picked up the tray from the bartender and smiled. The same pink fruity cocktail going out to the same beautiful girl. He had been serving her for a week now. He made it a point to be the one to take her whatever she ordered. He hadn't been able to take his eyes off her since she arrived.
He looked across the pool. She was laying on a beach chair in the same cabana she had been in for the last few days. He asked around about her and was told the pretty girl paid extra to reserve the cabana so nobody else could use it when she wasn't in it.
He first noticed her when she arrived, which wasn't hard to do. No other girl held a candle to her at the resort. There was no way he would overlook a girl as beautiful as her. She had the blondest hair he had ever seen. Her skin was a milky white and her eyes were as blue as could be.
When he first saw her up close she laying by the pool. What stood out were the cuts and bruises she had all over her body. Her knees were scraped, along with cuts on her forearms and bruises on her shoulders and back. She wasn't shy about them, just the opposite actually, she seemed proud of them.
That being said, what drew him to her was that she walked with so much confidence. Like she owned the place, yet she wasn't stuck up or snobby like most of the middle aged rich wives that stayed there. No, this girl was different, always saying please and thank you and over tipping.
He walked her drink to her. She had on dark sunglasses so he couldn't tell if she saw him coming but she sat up when he arrived beside her.
"Thank you." She said.
Today she was wearing a black bikini, showing off her battered but beautiful body. She grabbed her drink from him and immediately took a long sip, almost like she was savoring it. He noticed her red, chipped nail polish and her blonde hair that looked almost white in the bright sun.
"You're welcome." He replied. He hovered around, trying to work up the courage to talk to her. She noticed him lingering but didn't shoo him away.
He had theories about her cuts and bruises. He was thinking she ran away, escaping an abusive boyfriend and was hiding out at the resort. Maybe he can be the handsome young man who rescues her when the abusive boyfriend returned. He would save her and she would be so thankful she would go out on a date with him. That's what he fantasized about in his head anyway.
Curiosity got the better of him today. Instead of the usual "hi" and "have a good day" he decided to go for it. He might never get the opportunity again.
"Umm miss, can I ask you a personal question?" He asked, timidly.
The strange beauty stopped sipping her drink and placed it on the table next to her. He had her attention. She slid her sunglasses onto the top of her head. When she did the boy stepped back and almost tripped over her flip flops that he had stepped on. Her eyes radiated with an amazing blue glow.
"That depends." She replied.
For a moment he forgot what he wanted to ask. The girls eyes slowly returned to a normal shade of blue, although still beautiful. He regathered his thoughts.
"Okay...... So how did you get those bruises and all those cuts?" He asked, nervously.
The girl looked him up and down. She had been here the whole last week getting some much needed peace and quiet. Though she was far away from her normal civilization, her guard would always be up wherever she went. It was her way of life now. That's just the way it would be from here on out.
She wondered if this boy was a threat.
"I've seen you around. Have you been spying on me?" She asked, calmly.
She knew if she wanted to she could find this boy later and kill him. It would be so simple.
"What? No, no, I mean I've seen you..." He fumbled his words.
This kid was no threat to her, she realized immediately. Just a teenager with raging hormones. Lucky for him. She didn't really feel like killing anyone today anyway. She needed this relaxing vacation to be without any distractions.
"Relax." She replied, laughing. "I'm teasing you. But if you must know.... I got into a fight."
"A fight? With who?" He asked. He knew it! An abusive ex-boyfriend.
"With WHAT is more like it."
The boy looked on, confused. "Did you win?"
She put her sunglasses back over her eyes and smiled. "Oh yeah."
He nodded, impressed. "Can I ask you something else?"
"What's your name?" The young, blonde beauty asked, cutting him off.
"Luke." He replied.
"How old are you, Luke?"
"Seventeen."
"You ask too many questions." She teased.
"I'm sorry. I just see you here by yourself and I can't help but wonder how that's possible. You have this big cabana, you're staying in the biggest suite we have..." His voice trailed off.
"Well I won't be alone for long, Luke." She replied. She stood and grabbed a beach towel from the back of her chair.
"In the next day or two there is going to be a handsome young man and a little boy joining me. You'll know them when you see them. The guy will probably be wearing a black baseball cap and the boy is five years old. Do me a favor, since you like keeping tabs on me, can you let them know where I am when they arrive?" She asked.
Damn it! He should have known she wasn't single. "Of course. And, I'm sorry for being so nosy." He added.
"It's okay, Luke. I like you. If you still want to I'd like you to be our waiter until we leave here. We'll tip you very well."
"Of course, I'd be happy to." Luke replied.
He watched as she gave him a smile before she walked down to the beach and toward the ocean. It was everything she dreamed it would be. What it took for her to finally make it here made it that much sweeter. She was just missing one thing, and he would be arriving any day now.
She held out her beach towel as she approached the water and let the warm breeze take it out of her hand......
