Chapter 14

"The future," The two said in unison as they began making their way out of the alleyway and onto the streets of 2015 Hill Valley. The reveal was honestly a surprise given the fact that they were 30 years in the future. It looked similar yet different in Jamie's mind but not what he expected actually. It didn't look like a "How the 60s envisioned the future," sort of future, more like a "Sci-fi themed future." It was like getting Deja vu walking through a different version of Hill Valley.
They crossed the street over a no-landing zone road, almost getting hit by a car. The boys continued walking down the sidewalk noticing some changes left and right, like the entire courtyard area was now a pond, and there was a building that looked to be a cinema judging by the name displayed "HOLOMAX" playing "Jaws 19."
"Welcome to Texaco," A robotic voice caught their attention as they looked at the gigantic Texaco gas station. Unknowing to them, the Jaws theme began to play, and a massive hologram shark began projecting. They turned around as Marty quickly ducked and hid behind Jamie, screaming, Jamie on the other hand looked unfazed by the hologram as it went right through them before disappearing.
Jamie looked behind and down to see Marty hiding behind him which he found amusing. "At least I know which one of us will be bait,"
Marty looked up to see his boyfriend, he could tell under the sunglasses that he was looking at him funny which made him feel a little embarrassed that he got scared by a projection trying to eat them, he stood up before saying, "Shark still looks fake," Jamie snickered before looking back to the cinema.
"I mean, for 19 I expected it to be better," Jamie said honestly a little disappointed by how the shark looked before turning back to Marty.
"You were scared, weren't you?" Jamie said Marty's face turned to disbelief, "Wha- What? no, I wasn't scared, it just caught me off guard," Marty said, trying to sound tough but Jamie could see through that lie.
"Sure," Jamie trailed off before both boys turned to see the Cafe 80s right across the street where Lou's cafe and the jazzercize building would be in the past.
Walking across the street on the way to the cafe, they passed by a display window for a shop named "Blast from the Plast" which looked to be an antique store. A certain book caught the two's attention, especially Marty's. "Gray's Sports Almanac?" Marty tilted his head at the name.
"1950 through 2000, maybe we could sneak that book and become millionaires the next day back home," Jamie jokingly said. He wasn't one to cheat but Marty on the other hand turned to him looking intrigued by that idea. "Actually, now that you mention that."
Jamie laughed it off. "Marty I'm just kidding, no way can cheat our way through life," Jamie knew Marty was thinking about it, he could tell from the disappointed look like he was a child Marty had given him. "Come on, think about it,"
"Hey, we have a mission to do, remember," Jamie said, placing his hand on Marty's shoulder. Marty sighed knowing Jamie did have a point and they were on a tight schedule after all. "You're right," Maybe before they go, he could get the book real quick and sneak it back to 1985 with them.
Both boys then walked over to the Cafe 80s which was just a few steps away. They were steps away from entering before Marty stopped. "Say, do you mind if you could stay out here? I think I can handle this by myself," Jamie raised his eyebrows perplexed.
Hey, I mean, "Are you sure?" Jamie looked at him surprised. "Doc did tell me that I have to keep you out of trouble.
"Yeah, I know but I mean, hey, he said all I have to do is just say no, what's the worst that can happen?" Marty said.
