In a deserted section of the city, Moiraine, Lan, and Rand sought out the concealed Waygate crucial for their escape.

"It should be somewhere," Moiraine remarked, scanning the surroundings.

Lan's sharp eyes caught sight of their objective. "There."

Approaching the Waygate, they discovered a barrier—a wall constructed to impede their passage. Moiraine turned her attention to Rand, issuing a directive.

"You'll have to channel into it. Split it open with sheer force if you have to," Moiraine instructed.

"No, he won't. You're going to open it," Lan countered.

"Just do it," Moiraine urged, a sense of urgency in her voice.

Lan insisted on a deeper observation. "Look at Moiraine. With the Source."

Moiraine hesitated, and Lan pressed her further. "Not just your eyes. What do you see?"

Reluctantly, Moiraine admitted, "It looks like a knot tied together."

"That's impossible," she added incredulously

"That's impossible," she added incredulously.

Lan drew upon a memory, "When Elara spoke to me, she reminded me of a story from the Age of Legends about the Forsaken's powers—a skill that's been lost for thousands of years—to tie off weaves and leave them in place," Lan explained. "It never made sense to me, Moiraine. Elara was right. What you're feeling? Ishamael didn't still you. Not even a Forsaken could do that alone. It is a shield that he's tied off, which means..."

"It can be removed," Moiraine concluded with a mix of surprise and relief.

"Yes," affirmed Lan.

Rand sought guidance. "What do I need to do?"

Lan clarified, "You don't have the skill to untie this knot. You'll have to cut it."

With determination, Rand channeled a spear and carefully, tentatively, struck the knot

With determination, Rand channeled a spear and carefully, tentatively, struck the knot. Moiraine gasped.

"I feel it. I feel it. Thank you," she expressed her gratitude softly.
