It was the last week of the year, and everyone in the office was buzzing with excitement about the New Year's celebrations.

After spending hours retraining daily, a quick break in the office cafeteria—even with their godawful coffee—felt like a lifesaver to Krithika. She didn't mind the cheerful faces around her either.

The Xhasis had only one annual ritual: an extravagant New Year's party where every employee indulged in a lavish feast and danced to their heart's content. Last year, she hadn't been invited, likely because she was still a trainee or... Well, it was too insignificant to remember.

But this year? There was no escape.

Even if she wanted to.

Did she want to? Maybe not. Maybe she actually wanted to go. Maybe she was hoping to find the man who'd stolen a kiss from her that one night. Maybe, just maybe, he'd recognize her, and—oh god—maybe she'd let him kiss her again, exactly like that.

Muruga! What was that?

Blushing like an idiot, she touched her lips, and they tingled at the memory. How had that even happened? Why was her brain so goddamn obsessed? Did she really want to see him again? Would she actually let herself get kissed so passionately again? Never. It was insane, terrifying, and utterly outlandish all at once.

Rashi elbowed her, snapping her out of it. "Did you know everyone has to participate in everything? Every damn game!" She squealed like one of those over-the-top Korean drama characters. "And guess what? This year, even Satya ma'am and Xavier sir are joining the final paper dance!" She clapped her hands, beaming with excitement.

Yes, they had games. Krithika had heard about the elaborate amusements planned every year for the party. And no, they weren't the simple, kindergarten-style games one might expect. These were more daring, bordering on coquettish but never inappropriate. When she had asked her teammates about it, most had replied, "Harmless flirting is good for the heart and soul, Krithika!"

Akash cleared his throat, bringing her back to the present. "Well, they both dance together to kick off the celebrations," he said, flashing a lopsided grin. "It's some ballroom-esque thing they do."

"Why all the grandeur, though?" Krithika asked, genuinely curious. Why blow so much money on a New Year's party?

Leaning back in his chair, Akash said, "Word is, five years ago, they decided to team up on New Year's Eve to start this company." He shrugged. "So now, Satya ma'am goes all out every year to relive their big moment."
