CHAPTER ONE: PILOT

"Thank you," Bonnie smiled widely at her boyfriend, Jeremy, as he set down a couple shots for the group. Matt and Caroline both stood around the table as music played loudly and people danced and drank in the Mystic grill.

"You're welcome." Jeremy grinned back at his girlfriend before the groups eyes all transferred to Kaitlyn. She was stood on the bar counter as she danced to the music with a wide smile on her face.

"She looks so happy and carefree up there." Bonne said as they watched the vampire. Kaitlyn had always been carefree but when she became a vampire, things had changed. She changed. Kaitlyn was one of the most calm vampires Bonnie had ever met. Even when she first turned. Damon had helped her a bunch and taught her a lot about vampirism. Surprisingly, he was as a good teacher as she was a prodigy. Damon and Elena fought a lot in the process of Damon teaching Kaitlyn due to Elena not liking her sister embracing being a vampire.

Matt and Caroline gave each other a look before they looked back to Kaitlyn, "Take it off!"

Kaitlyn grinned as she heard her friends and grabbed the bottom of her long sleeve and slipped it off her head to reveal her tank top underneath. Her friends cheered and held up their shot glasses. Kaitlyn bent down to grab a shot glass of her own and held it out with a smile towards her friends. "To friends and family!" Kaitlyn shouted as her friends all downed their shots.

As Kaitlyn went to take her shot, her eyes found a man near the entrance of the grill, he had dirty blonde hair and these striking blue eyes that she recognized instantly. Her smiled slowly dropped and she hopped down from the bar counter.

She walked towards her friends and Jeremy could see something was wrong by the look on her face. So many emotions ran through her eyes as he spoke, "Kaitlyn, what's wrong?"

"Hey, are you okay?" Caroline asked her as she approached the table.

Kaitlyn nodded her head, "yeah, yeah, i just thought i saw someone i knew."

Matt saw the dazed look on her face and questioned her, "Who?"

Kaitlyn brushed it off as if it didn't matter, "it was just some guy that i met at a bar when i was living in New York."

"Was he hot? What did he look like?" Caroline questioned and raised her eyebrows in a suggesting way.

"Very. Tall. British, dirty blonde hair and gorgeous blue eyes." Kaitlyn remembered him as clear as day, even though she wasn't supposed too. Caroline furrowed her eyebrows and looked to Bonnie quietly as Bonnie stared at Kaitlyn awaiting a reaction. "What's these looks for?"

"Nothing." Caroline responded but Kaitlyn knew better. Not only was Caroline a horrible liar, she knew that they knew who she was talking about. Kaitlyn acted as if she had no idea but she did. Nik, or Klaus, had erased her memories a year ago. The two met in a bar in New York after Kaitlyn's parents died. Kaitlyn got into a school there and she took it. Jeremy and Jenna both encouraged her to go, Elena on the other hand...did not.

FLASHBACK TO NEW YORK, 2009

Kaitlyn was fresh and new to the city still as she walked into some dive bar. There was a couple people around but no one looked in her direction when she walked in and she was okay with that. She walked up to the bar and took a seat. "Can i get a beer?"

The bartender looked at her and raised his eyebrows at her, "Can i get ID?"

"Look, I've had the worst two weeks of my life and all i need right now is a drink." Kaitlyn said to him with a little bit of a harsher tone than she intended to have.

He was about to speak up but a british voice spoke up beside her, "get the lady a beer. Add it to my tab." Kaitlyn looked next to her and saw one of the hottest men she's ever seen and she knew the Salvatore brothers. Her eyebrows raised at his words before the bartender nodded silently and put a beer in front of the girl making her smile at him. "You're a new face."

"You do know that there are roughly 8 million people that live in New York, right?" She asked with an amused tone and lifted the beer bottle to her lips.

"I'm pretty observant. And nosy," the man added with a smirk, "why has this been the 'worst two weeks' of your life?"

Kaitlyn laughed at his question with this glint in her eyes. This had probably been the first genuine laugh since her parents died. "Definitely nosy."

Kaitlyn took a bigger sip of her drink as she prepared to say the words aloud. Klaus stared at the girl as he downed a shot of bourbon. "My parents died." Klaus swallowed slowly as he was not expecting that answer from her. Kaitlyn kept her eyes down as she continued, "They got into a car accident and drove off a bridge. My sister was in the car and she survived but my parents...didn't."

Klaus leaned forward slightly, "I'm sorry for your loss. I bet if they could see you now, they'd be proud of you."

"Oh, yeah," Kaitlyn started with a sarcastic tone of voice, "their 17 year old daughter that ran away to New York and is drinking in a bar with a hot stranger." The words just casually slipped out of her mouth that she didn't fully register her words.

Klaus smirked at her words and looked at her, "there could be worse things."

Kaitlyn turned her head to look at him, the two making eye contact, and the alcohol hitting her quicker than usual. "That's true. We could be doing much more then just drinking right now." Klaus tilted his head with a smile on his face, his dimples as clear as day.

The two ended up leaving the bar, stumbling through Kaitlyn's dark apartment as their lips were connected in a hungry kiss. Klaus shut the door behind them as Kaitlyn slipped her jacket off. They made their way towards the living room without disconnecting from each other and landed on the couch. Klaus was sat down with Kaitlyn straddling his lap. The pair pulled back briefly to catch their breath and Klaus was quick to pull her shirt over her head. That was the first of many nights with Klaus and Kaitlyn.
