CHAPTER NINE: I'M NOT YOUR MOTHER

PRESENT TIME...

Kaitlyn stood on the porch of her and Klaus' home in New York. Their first house together. Honestly, she was struggling a lot. Klaus had all his memories of them wiped away so she knew he wouldn't be here but that thought made her wanna cry and scream. Part of her couldn't even imagine how Klaus felt when he compelled her memories away. Being the one who remembered, while the other forgot, was agony.

The vampire took a deep breath and walked up to the door, opening it and making her way inside. Everything looked the same as she remembered, except for a few broken lamps and chairs spread across the room. Little did she know, Klaus came back here from time to time after he compelled her to forget him and his reaction wasn't so nice.

As she walked inside, it's like all the memories in the house came flooding back to her all at once. Her eyes looked to the couch, remembering when she sat there and watched Nik holding a baby, the future being talked about in this very room. A sob escaped her as her hand shot to her mouth to quiet it. She backed up slowly until her back hit the wall. Her eyes squeezed shut as she slid down the wall, desperately trying to hold in her sobs--and failing.

Little did she know, Elijah stood at the doorway, the front door open as he stood just outside the threshold. Kaitlyn was too distraught to acknowledge his presence. It wasn't until he slowly stepped inside and made her way toward her. He sighed silently and bent down, sitting next to the crying girl.

Kaitlyn lifted her head slightly from her shaky hands, her eyes were red and puffy, strands of hair watered with her tears sat in front of her eyes. Seeing Elijah next to her, she didn't know what to feel. She didn't know if she could trust him and she was scared of making the mistake too if he was playing her all over again.

"They're not coming back, are they?" Kaitlyn's voice was hoarse and quiet as she turned her head to look in front of her.

"We'll get his memories back." Elijah assured her but she didn't believe it.

"The world really doesn't want Nik and i to be together. No matter what happens, one of us is always doomed." Kaitlyn shook her head and covered her face, scared for Elijah to watch her lip quiver as she felt her heart breaking at the thought.

Elijah wasn't sure what to say--Kaitlyn had gotten the worst of it, while Caroline was faithful to him, Klaus had no memory but hate for Kaitlyn and in turn of that, he had interest in Caroline. That all eventually went away after Elijah told Klaus the truth about him and Caroline. "I'm not gonna stop until i figure out a way to get his memories back, Kaitlyn."

"How could you possibly do that? Who could be strong enough to undo what Esther did to him? She is the original witch. Who could even come close to topping her magic?" Kaitlyn turned her head to look at Elijah for an answer. Elijah was the one who turned his gaze away as he thought about who could do that. The person he hadn't spoke to about the truth behind his family.

"I think i know..." Kaitlyn's eyes widened as Elijah said those words.

FLASHBACK TO 5 MONTHS AGO...

Elijah was quick to flee after his conversation with Klaus. He has stopped by Caroline's, hoping to say goodbye before he left but Caroline refused to let him go by himself. She told her friends that she was going to visit her dad for a bit but in reality, she just wanted to be with Elijah.

Elijah had found a letter addressed to him but it wasn't signed. It was a letter telling him to meet them somewhere if he wanted help with the Kaitlyn and original vampire problem. They said they had a solution that could reverse all that was done.

Elijah had Caroline stay back at the hotel just in case it was a trap, he couldn't let her get hurt. The letter said to meet at a near by little craft store. Elijah scoped it out a bit before he went inside. The bell on the door went off as he walked in completely. The store was full of witchcraft materials, to locals it just looked like a cute store with fake crystals and such but something told him, this was actual magic.

"I wasn't sure if you'd come." A woman walked out of the back room, her long blonde hair ending at her waist and a little basket in her hand. Elijah whipped his head quickly to look at the woman and his eyes widened in shock.

"Mother?" He wasn't sure if it was fear or shock that took his body over as he saw his mother in the flesh.

"Elijah," Esther smiled as she walked forward, setting down the basket, standing right in front of Elijah. "I've heard about what's happened. Niklaus has outdone himself." The distaste was clear on her face and in her voice about her son and the situation.

"Yes, well...Niklaus has found someone he loves. I've never seen him go this far for someone before. It almost makes me see things differently." Elijah mumbled the last part as he was slowly coming to realization that maybe all of this could have been avoided.

"It can't, Elijah. I need to restore the balance of nature and doing the spell i did to creature my children, it disrupts the balance greatly." Esther told him, not wanting him to change his mind on the situation. She needed his help.

Elijah went to open his mouth but a new voice spoke up, "I bring you back to life and you use your magic to try and hide from me, sister?" Dahlia walked into the craft store, seeing Esther and the back of someone's head, unsure who it was until he turned around. "Elijah?" Her voice was quiet and her eyes weren't able to leave his.

"Do i know you?" He asked, confused about who this woman was and how she knew him.

"That's Dahlia, my sister, your aunt." Esther said for her sister. Esther was not expecting what was to come next.

Dahlia's eyes shot to her sister, "Aunt?" After all these years, finally she was face to face with Elijah and Esther was clearly trying to keep the secret for longer than it should have went on for. "Tell him the truth, sister, it's time."

"Dahlia-"

"You tell him or i will." Dahlia threatened her with warning in her eyes.

"What is going on here?" Elijah asked, looking to his mother with a questioning glance. "Mother?"

Esther and Dahlia stared ahead at each other before Esther sighed and looked to Elijah. She knew know that she had to have a plan B because he wouldn't help her after this. "Elijah, I'm not your mother."

Elijah tilted his head, his eyes blinking more than usual as he was caught off guard, "I'm sorry? What are you saying?"

"I'm not your mother. Dahlia is." Elijah's wide eyes slowly looked over to Dahlia, whose eyes were soft when she looked at him.
