CHAPTER TWO: VAMPIRISM AND HUMANITY

"No, Caroline, it's impossible." A group stood in Alaric's classroom after hours to discuss Kaitlyn and Klaus. Elena didn't want to listen or accept what Caroline was trying to tell her. "Kaitlyn wasn't here when Klaus came to town. She ran off to New York and she didn't get back until Klaus left.

Damon was leaning back against the wall of the classroom with his eyes closed. He wasn't sure why he was called here, unknown to them, Damon knew about Kaitlyn and Klaus and he didn't want to get involved anymore than he was. He didn't want the eldest Gilbert girl to hate him.

"I'm not saying that she knows what happened with Klaus when he came to Mystic falls." Caroline tried to explain to her, "She might not know who he really is but she has met him before."

Elena shook her head at the blonde vampire, "No, she can't."

Caroline sighed at her friend. "She described him to us, Elena. It's Klaus. They met while she was in New York but you didn't see her face. I think-I think something happened between them."

Damon scrunched his face from his position against the wall, "What do you mean 'something' happened?"

Caroline and Alaric both gave him a 'are you serious?' look. "Does she seriously need to explain that to you?" Alaric asked his raven haired friend.

Elena looked back to her boyfriend, "What do you think, Damon."

"Look, i don't like the thought anymore than you do but there's nothing anyone can do about it." Damon started as he watched Elena's face start to get a bit annoyed, clearly she had expected him to be angry and back up her thoughts, "Kaitlyn is Kaitlyn and she's gonna do whatever she wants to do. If she wants to sleep with Klaus, let her. Maybe, at least then, our problems would go away."

"I am not letting my sister sleep with Klaus of all people." Elena denied and turned back to Caroline and Alaric.

"You can't change her mind, Elena. You tried that before and it didn't work." Ric said to her, recalling the conversation Jeremy told him about when Kaitlyn first left to New York.

Elena was silent for a moment before her eyes locked on Ric's, "It will this time."

NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 13 2009

Kaitlyn rolled over on her bed and collided softly with another body. With her eyes still closed, her hand wandered over a bare chest. Klaus was already awake and watching amused. He chuckled, making her hand feel the rumbling below her fingertips and opened her eyes. Her eyes met Klaus' and she slowly removed her hand. "Don't stop on my account, love."

Kaitlyn grinned softly and sat up, a small yawn escaping her as she pulled the sheets closer to her bare chest. She glanced around her bedroom and furrowed her eyebrows, "were we not on the couch?"

Klaus stared at her with this soft look in his eyes as he responded, "mhm, once you fell asleep, i moved you to the bed so you'd be more comfortable." Kaitlyn turned her head to look at Klaus, her head tilting in his direction as surprise filled her. "Your place is quite empty."

Kaitlyn blinked and snapped out of her small daze with a nod, "Yeah, i just moved here about a week and a half ago. I got a school opportunity and my brother encouraged me to take it." Kaitlyn couldn't help but think about her little brother. It was only a week and a half and she missed Jeremy so much.
