READER'S POV:
I slided open the door of the main campus's school library then sat down on a table overlooking one of the windows of the room in the corner to study social sciences.
A guy's frame leaned on my shoulder from behind, "That's a bulky help book for history."
On turning my neck I recognized the guy as Karma. He stood up straight after placing a book next to my seat and sat down."You? In the library?" I raised my eyebrow on finding him here of all places. This was somewhere I'd least expect to run into him.
The red head leans back on his chair to read the book in front of him. "Why not? I just wanted to check out a novel." He said with the smirk he always had on.
I ignored him for then to focus on my study but couldn't ignore him for long enough as he sat right next to me, reacting with a gasp or by making short comments whenever he read something interesting.
"Can you stop that?" I protested his behaviour.
He glanced over me as if he didn't know what I was talking about. "Stop what?"
"Reacting with 'Oh!', 'Damn!', 'heh', gasping and other words. We're in a library. React in your mind or sit somewhere else." I frowned at him.He didn't bother looking at me and continued reading, "Nah, it'd be a bother to shift to somewhere else. You better focus on your studies and get better grades, else you'll be my servant forever."
I rolled my eyes. I didn't see myself getting anywhere by arguing with him. He quieted down later on but still proceeded to make short comments in between.
I had started studying at around 4:15PM, at almost 5:30PM I put down my pencil and stretched my arms a bit. I turned my head to my left, where Karma sat, still reading his book. "What are you reading though?", I was interested in knowing what had got him so focused. Karma didn't look up from his book, "It's a short mystery storyline."
That was like him to be interested in this genre.
I put my head on the table to rest. "Why are you sitting beside me, though?"
Karma still didn't look up from his book. "Not many students come here in the corner of the library. I also wanted to distract you and annoy you by sitting here."
'I knew it. He was being distracting on purpose.' I thought to myself and sighed.
I felt tired at that moment and closed my eyes for a moment to take a break. When I lift my eyelids up, the next thing I saw was Karma still sitting beside me with his head resting on the table as well. His eyes were shut as he napped beside me. I didn't bother sitting up straight and stayed like that. I silently viewed his perfect face proportions. I had never noticed he was so good looking. I kept gazing at him quietly until he opened his eyes. I realised I was still staring at him. I sit up straight with a shudder. I knew my face showed a tint of red in embarrassment.Karma sat up straight and stretched his arms. "Were you admiring my charm while I was asleep?" He teased me with a smirk.
"What- N-no, I wasn't. I dozed off earlier and on waking up I just saw you asleep next to me-" I stood up from my seat in a flutter.
"Come on~ I know I'm handsome, accept it." He cheekily grinned.
Our conversation was cut off with the lights going out abruptly. There was darkness in the room. I walked around to the other parts of the library but found no one.
Karma placed his hand on my shoulder from behind which gave me a jumpscare. He pointed at the clock which showed the time as 6'o clock. Karma then pointed at the windows, "It's already time for the school to close...", he walked towards the door, "if we're lucky this might open." The red head used force on the door but it didn't open. I moved closer to the window and looked outside, "All lights have been turned off in the campus."
Karma walks towards the window as well, to have a glimpse outside. "Can it get any worse from here? Do you have your phone?", he turned his head towards me.
I moved my hands through my pockets to look for my phone. "Here it is!" I exclaimed as I took it out from my pocket. "Crap,... it's at 1%, I'll try contacting someone quickly." My fingers began to hastily move on my phone to dial a number. "I'm giving a ring to Koro sensei..." Karma moves around in the room to look for something helpful while I just stood there with my phone next to my ear.
"Did he pick up?" Karma said while going through some drawers behind the librarian's desk. I lower the phone from my ear and glance over it. "No, he didn't pick up and now my battery has completely died." My hands shove the phone back into my packet. "Don't you have your phone along?" He did not bother looking at me, "Nah, I left it at home."
A sigh leaves my mouth. "How'd I end up in this situation with YOU of all people?"
He walks over towards me with something in his hands which he had taken from the drawer, "Be grateful that I'm here. Else, you'd be locked in the school for the entire night by yourself. Also, you're at fault here for dozing off in the corner from where anyone rarely passes by."
I cross my arms and lean against the table. "Oh, as if I was sitting there alone, right? And no one sat next to me out of their own free will just to distract me from studying, right?" I replied to him. A sound like that of a plastic pack being opened entered my ears as I looked over at what he had in his hands.
"What's that?" I moved closer him to see what he held.
"I found a packet of some biscuits in the librarian's drawer." He extended the packet forward. "You can have some, afterall I can't see the needy people starving." His face displayed his usual smirk.
My eyebrows form a frown on my forehead, "I'm not starving. Keep that."
Just when I finished my sentence a growling sound escaped my stomach. My face showed a hint of embarrassment. My right hand quickly snatched 3 biscuits from the packet while Karma just chuckled at that.
"Knock it off. We have to get out by hook or crook. We can't stay here for the entire night." I spoke after chewing a biscuit.
"It's not that bad here."
"How is it good, then?"
"Well, we now know that the librarian hides snacks in her drawer. It's pretty useful information."
"I don't know why you're finding it useful." I rolled my eyes.
Silence followed the next few moments. "Let's try shouting for help." He walked closer to the window and opened it. "We're all the way up on the third floor, someone just might at least notice us here."
"Shouting, you say? I don't think it will work but let's do it." I walked closer to the window, placed both hands on the windowsill after folding up my sleeves. "With the motivation of not being stuck with you for another moment, I'll shout at the top of my voice, such that even my ancestors up there will hear it."
The next moment, both of us were shouting like lunatics but to no avail. Not a single soul heard our voices even after almost a whole minute. We stopped shouting after trying for a few minutes.
"Gosh, this whole area is too big for our voices to reach anyone." I placed my hand on my throat because all the shouting had made me thirsty.
I pulled out a chair from a table and sit down. "Guess we'll have to spend the night here."
Karma also sat down on a chair right next to me. "We don't have a choice, eh? It's the third floor, otherwise I would have jumped down already."
"Try it out. In the worst case scenario, you'll just die and let me have a peaceful life."
He lets out a smirk, "You hate me so much?"
"You're always getting on my nerves so of course, I naturally dislike you." I crossed my arms.
Karma placed his elbow on the table and rested his face on his palm. "Well, then you don't hate me. You just dislike me. There's a difference."
"Well- Uhm... Yeah you can say that..." I stare at his face for a short moment. "I just don't get it. Why are you, like, ALWAYS trying to pick a fight with me."
"Hmm... It's just an old habit. Also, I like it when you get annoyed. If I recall back to the first two years we had at this school, you had the biggest ego. It made it all the more entertaining when you ran out of replies."
"That's an old thing now. I've changed." I rolled my eyes.
"Gotta agree, though. You've changed ever since you came to the E-class... Oh, yes. I always wonder how you ended up in the end class." His voice spoke of curiosity.
"I'll tell you when I find out myself." I leaned back in the chair when the face of the damned principal appeared in my mind. "You got sent down there because of bullying, right?"
He turned his face towards the window and looked out while replying to me, "I guess, you can't say that. A bunch of fools were bullying someone from the E-class and I just saved that person by kind of beating 'em up." His voice sounded casual as he said that as if he was not bothered by it at all.
I tilted my head and looked at his face, "Do you always resort to violence to do things?"
"Nahh, only when it's extreme. Else, I have other tricks up my sleeves." He devilishly smirked.
A few minutes of silence followed.
"Have you always been good at combat?" A question which was pondering in my mind and I asked it.
"Why?" He raised a brow.
"Just wondering. When Karasuma sensei gives training and whenever you attend, I have noticee how your movements are sharper than the others."
"Have you been taking glances at me? During classes?" His voice again turned to a teasing one.
I rolled my eyes, "Never mind, it's useless to ask."
"Since you asked I'll just tell." He shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah, I have been good at it since as long as I can remember. It just came naturally to me. I can help you get stronger if you want." He winked.
"No, thanks."
"I've also seen you during training. You're not good enough at sports and stuff."
My expression turned into a frown again. "No one asked you. Keep it to yourself."
My attention gets diverted to a light sparkling outside the window. "Did you see that?" I pointed my finger out.
Karma turned his head towards the window. "See what?"
"I think I saw a light." My feet moseyed towards the window. I lean on it to have a glimpse outside. "I know I saw something..."
I felt a hot breath behind my neck. On turning my head backwards I cognized how Karma was standing too close to me.
"I don't see anything. It must have been your haliculation." He responded, not realising how close he stood to me. I had only tilted my head back slightly but I could still see his fine features which were appealing to the other girls. Only that day I noticed how good looking he was.
The lad crossed his arms behind his head casually as he moved back.
I shaked my head to get a hold of myself and sighed.
"I know I saw some yellow light, I'm sure of it." My feet also strodded back towards my chair until I tripped on a crack in the tile and landed on Karma which made him fall as well.
"Oww..." I winced not realising that I had fallen on top of Karma.
I sat up with my knees bent back and my hand rubbing the back of my head. "What did I trip on?"
"You can think about that later on, ya' know." Karma said in an indifferent voice. I looked down and freaked out when my attention went on how I was practically sitting on top of him.
"E-EHH!? I- SORRY FOR THAT!" My embarrassed self moved quickly to get off of him. I could feel myself blushing but Karma was indifferent with his regular smirk. As he got up, he fixed his blazer. "You're heavy. I'd advise you to start exercising rather than sticking to books the whole day."
His comment ticked me off. I could feel my hand clenching because of him. "I'm not heavy. You're just too weak"
Karma crossed his arms against his torso, "What makes you say that? I'm the strongest guy you've probably met. You're the one here who eats too much and slacks off.
I felt like punching him at that moment, "I'm not the one who slacks off here, it's you." My finger pointed at him. "During Karasuma sensei's classes I've only seen you slack off."
"And I've only seen you being miserable when holding the knife. As for myself, I don't need his classes to kill that octopus teacher of ours."
"You're too arrogant, you know."
"It's not arrogance, Ms. Maid. I'm just aware of my abilities, that's all."
"Stop with that name already!" I cross my arms. "Let's make another bet. If I beat you in ANYTHING, I'll stop serving you."
"Ya, sure. I'd like to see that day come."
"I'm not only talking about grades here. I'm also talking about sports, assassination, video games, puzzles, coin-op games, strength and stuff like that."
"Strength? Beat me in strength? Pfft... Don't make me laugh."
"Why are you so delusional about winning against me in strength?"
He grinned, "Because I AM stronger, 'k? I can prove it to you right now." his right eye winked at me which gave me a bad feeling.
I tilted my head, "Right now? There's nothing but book shelves here."
He came closer to me and bent a little towards me. He said with a smug expression, "There's something even heavier here."
The next moment, he had me lifted in his arms, with one under my legs and the other supporting my back. I didn't see that coming.
Afraid that I would lose my balance I wrapped my arms around his neck. My capacity to have collective thoughts and make decisive decisions was destroyed. I felt butterflies in my stomach.
"Wh- what the-?!" My speech was stammered and my face was also probably red. "I'm not heavy! Put me down, you-"
A grin displayed his face, "I've got to say, you're heavy. And now that I've shown you that I am stronger than you, I'll gladly put you down."
At the same moment a light flashed brightly inside through the window.
Before turning back to see what the flash was caused by, Karma gently put me down. When the both of us turned back, we spotted Koro sensei flying outside with a camera held in his tentacles and a small notebook in the other with his skin turned pink.
"Koro sensei?!" I exclaimed at him.
He panicked when he realised that we had spotted him. I stamped my feet over to the window. "I knew I saw something! So it was you! You knew we were stuck here but instead of helping you were just clicking photos!"
He sheepishly smiled and rubbed one of his tentacles behind his head, "He-he, I was just collecting photographs and writing notes for a romance film which I will shoot some day."
"What even is that? Wait, did you receive my call earlier?"
"Yes, I did, so I expected you to be in some trouble considering you have never reached out to me before. It was not that hard to find you."
"So you were here? ALL ALONG? And still didn't help us for the sake of some notes which you'll never use?!"
His face again turned into a sheepish grin, "Let's just get you two down." He ignored my statement.
Karma was unbothered by the situation, at least that's what his face said.»»--⍟--««
