"Nice to see you finally awake." Sarcasm laces her tone, And a fake smile spreads across her face.
She crosses her arms, leaning against the wall in front of me. And I adjust myself on the flimsy mattress, seeking comfort in my stiff, tightly wrapped leg.
I clear my throat, creating a fake act of confidence. "Where am I?" She chuckles, sadistically. "You've been awake for, What?—Thirty minutes, An hour? And you're already interrogating me."
She kicks off the wall, Approaching me. "I have to say, If you're looking for careers, Shoot for the crime spectrum." She sighs, shaking her head in a way goosebumps trail up my arms. And regret settles in my stomach.
"You'd be annoyingly great in that." She winks, before placing both palms on the foot of the bed, Causing me to unconsciously scoot myself back.
I shouldn't have asked for her, Literally anyone. But her.
"You'd be a the best criminal: With the way you always avoid my questions like your life depends on it." I retort, narrowing my gaze and cross my arms over my chest to seem more Intimidating.
She grins wider, annoyingly. "And here I thought you didn't have any fire in you. Turns out I'm very wrong, You just always manage to drown the fire out with a sprinkle of water."
I swallow the lump recently forged in my throat down, And push past the curiosity her entire sentence riddled me with.
"You said once we were safe, You would answer my questions."
"And the nice doctor lady, Told me I was safe as soon as I woke up. So by your own words, you have to answer my questions." I push the words out of my throat, and indulge myself in the proud feeling I gained for myself.
She waggles her eyebrows. "Okay.. Okay, I can see how much this means to you.." She sighs, moving to sit down at the end of my bed. "So ask away, Princess."
The proudness dissipates into thin air, in a split of second. Leaving me empty with a small tingle in my stomach, an stiff ache in my leg. And the slightest amount of embarrassment. Princess? Really?
I swallow another lump in my throat. "Where am I?" I ask. "A New type of sanctuary.." She answers.
"And how does it keep us safe?"
"Well, A very nice lady owns it, Her name is Kimberly. And she's like one of us. She was the first to escape, with the help of her wife Nora. Aka the nice doctor lady." She scrunches her nose, retorting my earlier comment.
"I appreciate the information but that wasn't my question."
She narrows her eyes. "I know, I was giving you context. And I'm getting to that part now." She remarks. "And you would've asked that question later anyway, I was just getting it out of the way."
