"What are we doing first, Boss." Kai asks, grinning. I'm glad he asked and I didn't have to.
Rowan narrows his eyes on Kai. "Don't call me that." Kai grumbles in response. "You're so boring." He says.
Rowan Ignores him, and instead locks eyes with the demon beside me.
"Didn't Kimberly say something about wanting us to practice sparring today?" Celina speaks up, a mischievous glint glimmering in her eyes."Uh—Maybe not.." Kai starts.
"Sure." Rowan cuts him off with a careless response. Every hair on my body pricking up with fear and nerves. My stomach recoils at the thought and I squeeze my hands into fists, digging my nails into the palm of my hand.
"We'll start off." Rowan signals Kai over with two fingers. Kai sighs and it's sad, He walks up to him with sagged shoulders and a look of defeat on his face. "What's wrong Kai?" Celina grins.
He side-eyes her. "Don't talk to me, ever again.."
She chuckles from beside me, and my entire being startles, fear swelling in my chest at the familiar and tormenting sound. I unconsciously step further away from her uncomfortably. I hope she didn't notice me.
Rowan and Kai stand opposite one another. Rowan steps one foot back and Kai reciprocates the movement, And then both of them throw their hands up to guard their face almost. I study the way they circle one another, like two predators fighting for scraps.
Kai whines. "Do we really have to do this? It's too hot—" He's interrupted by Rowan throwing the first hit, He barely dodges Rowans fist.
"Focus." Rowan barks, I almost jump at the sound, resisting the urge to puke everything in me as an anxious itch crawls up my forearms. And Suddenly I want to pick at the skin until this feeling disappears.
"That was a bitchy move." Kai sneers, barely dodging another hit.
Celina voice whispers from beside me. "Pay attention Flores. You'll need to borrow these moves when its our turn." She wears a sadistic grin. One that shakes me to my core, and forces the alarms to blare in my head with panic and fear.
"What?" My voice is shakier than I wish it was.
"What? Please tell me you didn't think you wouldn't be fighting."
"I'm not fighting you." I force my voice to be firm and steady, although it's a sad attempt because it still sounds weaker than hers. She scoffs. "You won't have a choice, Princess." She whispers the pet name into my ear, And I ball my fists together.
The next thing I know Kai is swept from under his feet by Rowan. the loud thump of his back crashing against the ground repeats in my brain, along with Celina's words. Fear overflows from my box of emotions, and my stomach churns with nerves.
"Shit." Kai gasps, clutching his chest as he rolls towards his side with heavy breaths.
"You aren't even trying to hit me, Kai. It makes me want to kill you." Rowan frowns, I see him cross his arms and notice every muscle contradict one another, sending a flush of heat down my body as I flicker my eyes between the two.
