[present day]
The girls do exactly what they said they were going to do. Kiara orders a pizza, forcing her friend to eat at least one slice. It's no use, because later that night, Abigail ends up kneeling in front of the toilet as she throws up everything she ate that day, with Kiara holding her hair with one hand and rubbing her back with the other.
Kiara tries to urge the girl to rest after that, but she refuses, knowing that she won't be able to stay asleep. Besides, they have more important things to do.
Like go through Amanda's belongings.
They sat on the floor of Abigail's bedroom for hours, starting with the boxes of books. The day after the teens went to Wilmington, Gram and Abigail went through some of the boxes, to sort out the things they couldn't keep — like clothes and shoes, making piles to donate to charity. Abigail didn't mention the hiding spots, or the cash, she's not even sure why, but right now she's grateful for her silence. If she would've mentioned it, Gram might've gone through all of it and who knows what she would've found and thrown away.
The two girls managed to find more hollowed out books, most of them containing cash. Abigail stashed all the cash they found in a shoe box she kept under her bed. One of the books had baby pictures of Abigail, and her heart clenched in her chest.
Kiara starts yawning sometime after 11 p.m., since she's been awake for over 24 hours. Abigail tells her to go to sleep, that she'll join her as soon as she finishes the last box. Kiara nods, climbing onto her friends bed and knocking out almost instantly.
Little did she know, Abigail had no intention of sleeping. She couldn't even if she wanted to. The Grace girl stays up all night, making piles of all the objects she finds in her moms books, before she moves onto the next box.
