Alexis

I’ve been doing a bit more digging on the men that matched Amber’s dna. Her potential father should be in that gene pool. That was in my spare time though, in the meantime Sammual was hounding my ass about finding that woman.

I’m supposed to be leaving for Hibus in the morning. But I’m just waiting for results that's well overdue to be on my desk. I heard footsteps coming towards my door and told them to come in before they even knocked. One of my guards came in with a file in hand. “From the lab Ms. Morozova,” he said. I nodded, taking it from his hand and he left. A royal blue confidential folder with a striking symbol. That already concerned me, so I opened it and viewed the person's file. For the second time in my life my heart stopped. “Lucrezia what the hell were you thinking,” a whisper left my lips.

Amber

After I changed into some warmer clothes Markus took me home. But before we left Lira told me she planned on telling her. I congratulated her again and told her that everything would go well. Back home, he helped me inside, not that I needed it… Who am I kidding that woman kicked me so fucking hard. I sat down on my bed and I slipped my shoes off. “Do you need anything? I could run and get it for you,” he said.“No, don't bother, I'll manage.”

“Are you sure?” he said, concerned. I smiled nodding, “I’ll be fine. Healing would be quick.” He sighed, “alright, but call me if you need anything.” He left shortly after and went to my bathroom to run a bath. Before I got in there was a knock, I grumbled before stopping the water to answer it. “What did you leave here?” I said thinking it was Markus back. “I don’t remember leaving anything,” she said leaning on the doorframe. She smiled, when I rolled my eyes. “I thought you were on curfew?” I said walking away.

“Where did you hear that?” I glanced her way before heading to the bathroom to get a needed bath. “Remind me to give Mark a gut check,” she uttered.

After I got out and clothed, Viva and I chilled out to talk about other things. She ordered a pizza and some other things as well. “So how did you manage to slip away?” I asked, taking a bite of my slice.

“I managed to persuade her. Something that’s not easily done but now I have to pay the man’s medical bills,” she replied. I laughed much to her dismay, but the night was okay. We talked about any and everything that came to mind and then called it a night once I got tired. I let her crash in the guest room that I didn’t use.

In the morning I was laying off in bed sore to the bone. I sighed, staring at the ceiling for a while as I managed to work my limbs out. Eventually I got up to start making breakfast.

From the fridge and cabinets I grabbed my ingredients to make a mean breakfast omelet. I got started on cutting my greens and proteins. Then I went to mix my eggs. I was so into it that I didn’t hear the door unlock behind me. I did catch onto the scent behind me though. “Did you forget to message me?” I heard her chuckle behind me.

“I wanted to surprise you, young one,” she replied, coming closer. Other than the aroma of the meal I’m making and her cologne there was also that soft delicate smell of those flowers she brings. “A gift, but I see you're still taking care of the previous bundle,” she muttered fiddling with the petals.

“Yeah, I prefer to maintain beautiful things. Even though they don’t last as long as you want them to.” She hummed before walking away. “Is everything going well?” I heard her say from the living room.

“It is quiet and appeasing,” I replied, throwing the mixed egg in the warm skillet. I grabbed my grated cheese and sprinkled it inside before dropping the rest of the diced meat and vegetables inside. I sprinkled some more before folding it in half.

Now my attention was fully on her. When she came in it felt like something was off. And for her, I never thought she would show that something really bothered her. Well I mean completely get under her skin. “You found something,” I said, gaining her attention. Her normally sharp stare grew soft as she let out a sigh. “Grab your breakfast first. It can wait a little while.”

I did turn back to make sure that my omelet was okay. After I plated it and got a glass of water, I sat down next to her. Now there was a folder sitting on the table. A royal blue with a golden symbol in the middle. A crest of a well known bird of prey. My gaze ran up her figure again, her hand covering most of her face. “How am I going to explain this to you know?”

I tilted my head a little before slicing into the soft fleshy skin. “Remember those photos of men I showed you that day?” She sat up and turned in my direction. I nodded, not wanting to talk with food in my mouth.

Her eyes closed for a moment then she opened it. There was a photo of a man with broad features. A heavy stubble beard, and shaggy dark brown hair, he looked very similar to my coach for some reason. Then I read the name, Vukasin Coveri’...

“This came back to me as a 99.9% match with your dna Amber.” She pointed and right behind that raspy voice I could hear a bit of hesitation. “But?” I said, raising a brow, setting my plate aside. “Nothing,” she said quickly. “Just know that you should not make contact with him.”

“Why, shouldn’t I? I asked you to find my biological father and now you’re telling me not to contact him. Why shouldn’t I?” I shot back confused, I mean I really wasn’t up for finding him at all after my dad died. But now I have a chance to contact my other side of the family and she doesn’t want me to. “Sometimes the truth is better left unsaid young one,” she said in a shaky voice. She’s being apprehensive about this whole thing, but I just don't know what for.

“I’ve been waiting for the truth for the last twenty-one years of my life. If you didn't want me to know, you shouldn’t have brought it to my attention. So, tell me what I should not know about this man in front of me Alex,” I hissed annoyed. Her jaw clenched, biting the lining of her cheek. She was thinking heavily about her next words, but she wasn’t thinking fast enough for my liking. “What is it that I shouldn’t know!”

“He’s a hunter. His whole lineage are hunters. And I think he was involved in the death of your mother,” she barked back. Those sharp almond eyes now filled with rage and sorrow, the pain of losing a sister. “He’s dangerous and so is the family. And with him finding out about you as his child with a hell beast, it wont look good,” she continued.

“Why?” is what slipped out. Out of all the words that were running through my thoughts. That is what came out. “The Cavokes’ uphold their bloodline to the key. Pure human, none tainted. If a member of their family forniactes with supernaturals like us, witches, maidens. Their both killed or either banished. And that’s if they're lucky. Their memory is erased from the family tree and their family crest is burned from their skin.” She stood up to take a breath.

“If Vukasin finds out about you, he’ll kill you to save his name. And if his family finds out about you, you're both dead. So please, don’t.” she shook her head. Her words lingered for a little while. I asked for the truth and I got it. So I’ll never really get the closure I need. Not from a real loving father like Nikolai was to me. But now at least I know one thing. My coach is my fucking uncle…

We sat in complete silence after that conversation ended. I finished my breakfast but it didn’t match the mood I was feeling. It was an awkward silence that never used to bother me much. However it left room for me to think about all of this more. My daydream was broken however when Alexis suddenly sat up. Eyes darting straight at the door. Then there was a knock. Now I recognize the scent.

“It’s open, Viva.” She opened it with a pissed look. “Sorry I forgot my jacket and charger here,” she said looking at me, but then she stiffened. “Viva?” Alex said from behind me. “Ms. Morozova, a pleasant surprise.” She uttered before bowing her head. I turned to look at her and she was glaring. “Talk to your guest Amber. I’m going to make a few calls.” she said, excusing herself.
