Spencer gets home after handling the case with Adam/Amanda. He bids Ellie goodbye, rubbing his face out of stress.

"Daddy!" He looks over at his favorite voice, the five year old running over to him.

"Hi, baby." Spencer kneels on the ground, the young girl crashing into him. He tightly hugs her, pressing a few kisses to her hair. Clara hugs him, her face nestled in the crook of his shoulder.

He lets her pull away, gently smiling at her once he sees her face.

"You seem sad." Clara says, patting his cheeks.

"I'm okay, hon." Spencer promises. "We had a hard few days at work, that's all."

"Did you catch the bad guy?" Clara hopefully asks.

Spencer struggles to answer, knowing Adam wasn't really a bad guy and his alternate personality did all of the killing.

"Yeah." He eventually answers, not having energy to explain anything to her. "Yeah, we did."

"So you did a good job." Clara grins.

Spencer softly laughs.

"Yeah, I suppose. C'mere, you." He pulls her back to his chest, pressing multiple kisses to her cheek, only stopping once she's giggling.

"You eat dinner yet?" He asks.

"No. Ellie let me wait for you." Clara says.

"Okay. What do you want?" He asks.

"Mac and cheese." She grins.

"Of course." Spencer chuckles. He stands up, holding Clara in his arms. "Mac and cheese it is."

Spencer is in Dr. Nichols' lab, waiting for somebody to come in in a hazmat suit. He calls Penelope, putting the phone to his ear.

"Hey, Reid." Penelope answers.

"Gee, wow, no, uh... no witty Garcia greeting for me?" He asks. Penelope heavily sighs.

"I can't be my sparkly self when you are where you are." Penelope says.

"Garcia, do you think you can do something for me?" Spencer asks.

"Anything." She immediately states.

"I, uh... I know I can't call my mom without, uh--" He clears his throat, "without alerting everyone at her hospital. And-- and I-I can't call Clara's school without alerting everybody there."

"What do you need?"

"I, uh... I need you to record messages for them in case anything happens to me." Spencer says.

"Oh, nothing's going to happen to you.  You're gonna... brilliantly find out who did this and we're gonna treat this strain." Penelope states.

"I hope you're right." Spencer says. "But if you're not, I just-- I really want to make sure that they hear my voice. Especially Clary."

"Okay." Penelope says. "Just, uh, give me a sec." She sets the first one up.

"Are you ready?"

"Ready."

Spencer hesitates for a moment before deciding to start with the slightly easier message.

"Hi, mom." He greets. "This is Spencer. I just, um..." He sighs, "I just... really want you to know that I love you and--" His voice catches making him clear his throat. "I need you to know that I spend every day of my life proud to be your son."

"Reid?" Penelope calls after a few moments.

"Can-- can you do the next one?" He asks, clearing his throat.
