When lunch was ready, Chai Son washed his hands and face in an old water trough in the yard before walking up to his porch and slipping off his coveralls then he went inside and the smells emanating from his kitchen were amazing.

Walking into the kitchen he found Kallan stirring a pot that was simmering on the stove and when he turned around and saw Chai Son he smiled, his fluffy hair was mussed up and his skin was a little shiny from being stood over the heat but he still looked adorable.

Chai Son came to the conclusion that he couldn't fight the attraction any more, he wanted Kallan for himself and he was sure that they could make it work, the city was only a few hours drive so he could go down at the weekends or Kallan could come up here, in a less expensive car of course.

When Kallan became his, he would insist that he drove something less conspicuous for when he wasn't with him to protect him.

"what have you made? it smells great" Chai Son said walking further into the kitchen.

"just some stew, I found some meat in your freezer and veg in the fridge, I hope it's ok?" Kallan said.

"of course it's ok,  it's not there to admire ... so what can I do to help" Chai Son replied.

"nothing, it's the least I can do after you've helped me so much" Kallan said.

"I didn't help you so you had to return the favour but I appreciate it"

"I know but I feel better doing something, I don't very often have the time to cook when I'm at home" Kallan replied.

"oh, is your job demanding?" Chai Son asked.

"it can be, sometimes I don't get home until late"

"you shouldn't work too late, you'll burn yourself out" Chai Son said.

"don't you ever work on your cars until late at night?" Kallan asked.

"nope, I knock off every day around 6pm, I had enough of that when I was in the city, life is for living, not just working, you've got to strike a happy medium" Chai Son said.

"you make it sound so easy" Kallan replied.

"I guess it depends on what a person wants from life, it's a personal thing ... I just want to earn enough to keep my wife happy, warm and well fed and I want us to spend our evenings together sitting out on the porch looking up at the stars after dinner"

"that sounds romantic, you say your wife, are you engaged?" Kallan asked and wondered why he felt weird.

"I hope to be soon" Chai Son replied.

"a word of advice then, if you want your wife to be happy, stop flirting with other people, she wouldn't like it" Kallan said.

"I don't flirt, I just try to make people smile, there's too much unhappiness in the world and a small compliment can brighten someone's day"

"is that why you kept calling me cutie, to cheer me up?" Kallan asked.

"nope, I really meant it but then again, if it did cheer you up, that's a plus" Chai Son smiled.

"mmm, I guess"

"so what about you, are you seeing anyone, you didn't answer when I asked you before?"

"not that it's relevant but no, I'm not" Kallan answered.

"good, I don't like treading on anyone's toes"

"see, there you go again" Kallan said as he took a couple of dishes from the cupboard and began dishing up the stew.

"I'm not flirting, just telling it like it is" Chai Son said.
