"So, you only have, like, two pieces of evidence here."
"Okay but, that's more than you have."
"That's not enough to make us trust you again!"
Tolkien had taken every opportunity possible to argue with Kenny. From the moment they all left school together, until now where they stood in the old library, he wanted to fight against everyone. His complaint had been bullshit, too - they had plenty of evidence spread across the table.
Leo ignored him with an eye roll, his attention fully on Kyle instead. This was his family's fault, and he was determined to help reverse the damage they had done. The things they did were terrible, it made Leo feel sick. He hadn't told Kenny that his anxiety was eating away at him, to the point where he couldn't sleep because of what his relatives had done.
That was where Kyle and Leo were forming a connection, though. "Ignore him, Butters." Kyle mumbled where he stood next to him at the main table. The others were scattered around, looking at pictures of people that Leo had saved to see if they knew someone. Kyle picked up a picture of the Mayor from the edge of the table, buried under a few documents. When he turned it over, he was surprised to find writing on the back. "What's this?"
Even Kenny didn't know what it was, he hadn't seen it before when they were last there. He stood alone next to Craig, hovering behind the two, his arms crossed over his chest grumpily. He wasn't in the mood to interact much after Tolkien's bullshit. It didn't help that Craig had been avoiding him since seeing his headstone.
Leo looked to Tolkien, and nearly shoved the writing in his face where he waited across the table. "This is our biggest piece of evidence. It's a picture of Mayor McDaniels a few years ago, around, like, 2008? The writing on the back is from her former advisor, Johnson, I think. J-Just based on handwriting in other official documents."
When they all exchanged looks in recognition, Leo was more than surprised. He didn't expect her aides to be so well known by the general public; although, he hadn't been there when South Park was much smaller.
Kyle was intrigued - he flipped over the picture to begin reading, Kenny joined just as equally curious.
Mary,
I met with the incumbent leader of the Paddys - the fool's ignorance is astonishing. He's the last to be included. Plans for the city start tonight.
Well, that was vague. Kenny had to read it a few times before he started to understand what it said. "Hey guys," They looked at him as he tapped the paper a few times. "This is totally after her other dude, Ted, died."
Leo was a little lost at this, he hadn't read anything related to a 'Ted'. He riffled through his papers, searching for the name, but he came up short. The only thing he could find was a newspaper clipping of Johnson. He held it up to Kyle, and Kenny.
"This is Johnson?" Leo's mouth went dry when they both nodded. "I think.. I've seen him recently."
Oh shit, I have too.. Kenny locked eyes with his boyfriend. This meeting wasn't supposed to complicate things further. "Leo, remember after I saved you, and it took me a while to catch up to you?" He nodded, while everyone else turned their attention on them, confused by their lack of recognition of those events. "I had to hide in the library for a minute, and there was this guy who helped me."
Craig scowled at the ground at the mention of that night. There were a plethora of things the gang didn't know about, and it pissed him off. He could still barely look at Kenny, sure, but he didn't want to be the only one sitting on this shit anymore: "Are you talking about when they kidnapped Butters?"
