"Wait.. What'd you say, Ken?"
Stan stared in shock at his best friend just a couple feet away, his mouth hanging open slightly as he repeated the words in his head. After what had happened between them when they were all thirteen, Stan was flabbergasted by the idiotic idea that Kenny had. Even if that hadn't happened years ago, they grew up with Cartman and had enough of his manipulation.
Kenny knew that they would all feel this way. It was why he had been so insistent for them to listen to him, since now, they were all arguing amongst themselves instead of giving him a chance to elaborate further. It gave the rest of the gang a chance to vent their frustrations to each other before they turned back to their leader, who was often not very forgiving when he was the target of misplaced anger.
The only one who remained quiet, was the main person that Kenny had been concerned with upsetting; Kyle sat with his hands folded in his lap, staring at his shoes flat against the carpet below them. Kenny wanted to start explaining why he needed them to do this, though the longer he stared at Kyle's defeated form, the worse he felt. For the sake of their future, everyone had to be on board with the plan - even if they had to work with their mortal enemies.
The arguing calmed down as the gang realized that they hadn't given their leader a chance to explain why he had picked this plan. Kenny stared at Kyle as he bit at his bottom lip, contemplating on whether or not he should talk to his best friend separately. It was too late now, the rest of them needed their answers: "I know it sounds fucking crazy." The room was silent as they all collectively raised an eyebrow at Kenny, the obvious statement not needing to be said. "I have a theory that Cartman is behind the appearance of the Irish Mob. About a year after the.. Incident with Cartman, Stan and I were walking back to my house when we were stopped by a few guys who claimed they were part of the Mob. Even though my parents definitely had connections with them, I believe the only reason the Mob is targeting me is because it's personal. I don't know what he's gotten himself into, but whatever it is, it's my fault. So, the only thing I need you guys to do is distract him."
As Kenny was finally able to explain the things he had been pondering for a while now, he felt a weight lift off of his chest. It was good to be honest after having to hide so much. Of course, not everything was out in the open, such as his immortality and his questions about Leo's involvement in everything, but it was a good place to start. The rest of the gang seemed to think so too as they started to discuss if they were all okay with this plan. Kyle still remained quietly staring at his shoes, his arms now wrapped tightly around his torso.
It all made Kenny think of the night that changed everything in their group, and possibly changed him more than he had previously acknowledged..
It was finally summer time for the gang after a long, terrible year. Kenny's parents had been taken to prison only four months prior leaving him desperate to do something to get his mind off of everything. Luckily that morning, Stan and Kyle had stopped by his house to invite him to a bonfire later that night where they could blow off steam, and maybe sneak a few drinks from Randy's fridge. He was looking forward to focusing on his friends again, since things had changed drastically for him, Kenny had been stuck at home the last few months taking care of Karen and the house.
After picking up Craig, Tweek and Tolkien, Kenny led them down the block again towards Stan's house as they excitedly chatted about all the stupid shit they were going to get into. As they approached the house though, the boys all slowed in their tracks as they noticed Cartman and Kyle out front in the yard, yelling at each other as they did too often.
Growing up being friends with Cartman and Kyle had been extremely difficult; Kyle was constantly discriminated against and emotionally manipulated by someone who claimed to be his friend - sometimes, anyway. For Kenny, when they were kids it was easier to brush off Cartman's ridiculousness and horrible behavior because it was fun to do stupid stuff with him. However, Kyle was someone who cared about Kenny and didn't tease him about being poor. Especially recently, Kyle had been there for Kenny, and as he saw Cartman shove Kyle to the ground for the hundredth time in their lives, he felt something snap.
