Chapter twelve

Lottie
Lottie didn't hear from Nat over the next few days and frankly, she didn't want to, Nat abandoned her, Lottie only hoped Nat had an excuse. She liked Nat. She really did. And Nat left her alone just like everyone else she has known. Over the weekend Lottie tried to stay busy and just told everyone who asked that Nat was sick.
Monday
Lottie's alarm went off, waking her up. She got changed into a  light blue plaid skirt and a small baby pink top. She did her makeup and had a breakfast bar before heading to school.

Natalie
Nat is was feeling a bit better, the coughing had stopped and her cuts were healing over, but she still didn't want to face Lottie, how would she explain what happened? Nat felt so bad.
She looked down at the time and got up for school, she was going to try and go in. Nat covered her bruises and cuts with makeup the best she could and got changed before heading out. Lottie wasn't going to pick her up as much as she wished she would.

Nat started her walk to school, the weather was fine although a bit cloudy. She put in her headphones and just walked. No Lottie, just her footsteps. One two, one two. And yet somehow her thought always ended up back at her.

She arrived at school and almost passed out when she saw Lottie's car. Shit. Nat ducked behind a bush until she was sure Lottie was gone. She knew she was going to have to face her at some point but that just wasn't now.

Lottie
Lottie walked into Spanish class and listened to whatever the teacher was waffling on about, she lay he head down and closed her eyes, she was just resting them, not sleeping. Lottie fell asleep.

She woke up to the bell ringing, she couldn't believe she slept through a whole lesson. Lottie looked around and realised that this wasn't her class, they were freshman. What was going on? Lottie leaned forward and tapped the girl in-front of her, who was packing her bag on she shoulder
"Hey, what time is it?" Asked Lottie
"Um- 12:30" said the girl
Shit, how was that even possible? She slept through four lessons? Why did no one wake her up? What was going on? Lottie grabbed her bag and walked out to lunch where she met the team and sat down.
She was still half asleep until she heard them talking about Nat, how she was back in school. All of a sudden Lottie felt really sick. Nat was back in?

Natalie
Nat sat behind the bleachers with Kevin smoking a joint.
"So what happened with you and that Lottie girl?"
"Nothing, she's just busy" replied Nat
"Oh ok"
"Don't you sit with her at lunch now?" Asked Kevin
"Yeah but I came outside to smoke"
"Oh right"
Neither of them spoke for a while
"Nat, I have something I need to tell you, I've been feeling like this for a long time and I want to tell you that I am in lov-"
"Hold on Lottie's texting me" Nat lied, trying to avoid what kevin was about to tell her, she knew that he liked her but never felt the same way.
After Lunch Nat headed to her next class and sat down inside. She wasn't paying any attention. Practice was cancelled today so that meant she could just go home after and rest up.

The bell rung and Nat headed out the front door. She got out to the car park and crashed into someone, it was Lottie.
"Oh, uh hey Lottie"
Lottie didn't say anything
"Look I'm really sorry"
Tears started rolling down Lottie's cheeks
"You left me, just like everyone else does"
"Alone" Lottie cried
"I'm sorry, I was, um sick" Nat lied
"And you couldn't have texted?" Lottie said she looked so angry and hurt.
"Leave me alone" Lottie said starting to walk away
Nat grabbed Lottie's arm. No Lott stop.
"Why should I" Lottie said, tears rolling down her face
Nat took a deep breath, and pulled Lottie's face up so they were making eye contact.
"Because I love you"
" and I've loved you ever since we kissed at Jackie's party, and I've spent every moment since being in love with you and thinking about you, and I'm so sorry I missed dinner, I was having issues with my dad, and I'm sorry for not telling you, but most of all I'm sorry for not telling you that I loved you sooner, because all I want is you"
Lottie stopped
"You love me?"
"How could I not?"
Lottie smiled, her cheeks still dripping from tears
"I love you too"
Nat stood up on her tip toes, Lottie leaning forward and pulling Nat into a kiss.

And so, the two girls started real dating, Lottie was no longer lonely, Nat was happy, and soon moved in with Lottie to escape her dad, they graduated together, and thanks to Lottie, Nat passed. They both went to college together on full ride soccer scholarships, and as cliche as it sounds, got married and lived happily ever after.
