Chapter two

Natalie
Nat sat at the back of the class thinking about Lottie, about how nice she was being, about how her jacket smelt like warm vanilla and jasmine and about how weird frog guts looked when the bell went.

Why was she even here? Maybe she could walk out? Stupid Lottie making her go to stupid bio. Nat put in her headphones and tried to ignore whatever was going on, that was until she heard her name being called
"Natalie, you can choose who you work with"
Nat looked around unsure, but before she could think Lottie was walking over to her and grabbed her arm.
"come work with us?"
"Uh yeah sure" Nat replied , Being dragged back to Lottie's table.
"Oh hey Nat"
"Hey" replied Nat to Jackie
Jackie looked at Lottie then back at Nat before raising her hand.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" Asked Jackie
"Yes but be quick and grab a hall pass on the way out" replied the teacher.
Jackie smiled at Lottie before leaving.
"So I guess it's just us" smiled Lottie
"Yep, well and the frog" replied Nat
"The frog is dead so I don't think it really counts"
"Way to lighten the mood Lottie"
"Sorry"
"Anyway, do you wanna go first?" Asked Lottie
"Not really"
"Well then that means you have to talk to me"
"Fine, I'll do it"
"How do I do it exactly?" Asked Nat
"Here I'll help"
Lottie grabbed the knife and handed to to Nat before standing behind her.
"Here" said Lottie placing her hand on Nat's
What was Lottie doing? And why was her hand so warm, and why could Nat feel her face flushing red? She looked back at Lottie, and then back to her hand being moved by Lottie's.

Lottie stood behind Nat and placed her hand on top of her's. her heart started beating so fast she hoped Nat couldn't hear it. Why was she so nervous all of a sudden, maybe she just wanted to be a good teacher. Yeah that was probably it. Lottie was directing Nat's hand around when Jackie walked back in. Lottie jumped back and Jackie laughed at her
"Sorry for interrupting whatever that was"
No one spoke.

Jackie-Tell me why I just walked in on Lottie and Nat basically making out
Tai-WTF?!?
Van-WHAT?
Shauna-huh???
Lottie-Ew Jackie I was just showing her how to dissect the frog
Jackie-yeah right
Lottie-We literally just started talking again
Van-damn I'm so confused
Tai-you me both
Jackie-invite me to the wedding!
Lottie-you guys are so annoying
Lottie turned off her phone and put it in her pocket, the rest of the class was awkward but went by quickly enough, they managed to dissect their frog. well, Jackie dissected the frog, Lottie and Nat just sort of watched.

The bell went off and marked the end of the class. Lottie grabbed her backpack and walked back to where Nat was now putting her headphones away.
"Hey, so I guess I owe you a study session"
"How does tonight after practice sound?" Asked Lottie
"Yeah sure" replied Nat
"Great, you can come home with me" said Lottie
"Not like that I mean-"
Nat laughed
"Yeah I get it"
"See you later Lottie"
Before She could say goodbye, Nat was gone Just like that.
The rest of the day went by quickly, that was until lunch and Lottie was brutally questioned about Nat, she didn't know why, they just went to a class together! She thought it was best not to tell them about her and Nat's planned study session later or she would never hear the end of it.
"Why were you taking her to school in the first place?" Asked Tai
"Because it was raining!"
"Well then why did she go to class?" Asked Shauna
"Because I asked her to!"
"Why did you ask her to?"Replied Van
"I don't know, I was being polite!"
"Whatever" said Tai
"Wait what's happening?" Asked Laura lee
Everyone laughed.

Lottie's remaining class was English with Jackie, they started walking to class together.
"Sooo?" asked Jackie
"So what?" Replied Lottie
"You and Nat?"
"What's going on?" Asked Jackie
"Nothing!"
"Oh and this has nothing to do with your freshman crush on her?"
"Hey! You swore you would never mention that! I was drunk!"
"Sorry!"
"And no, I'm way over that!" Replied Lottie
"Ok then" Jackie said sarcastically
They arrived to their class, it went quickly enough and Jackie didn't mention Nat again and even though Romeo and Juliet wasn't the best book to study given the circumstances, no comment was made and soon the bell rung.

Lottie headed to the changing room with Jackie and got ready into her uniform, tying her hair up with a yellow ribbon. The changing room was full of laughter and talking as everyone got ready. Natalie was nowhere to be seen.

Natalie
Nat was smoking behind the trash cans with Kevin, she knew she was running late but she was too tired to be questioned. Nat brought the cigarette up to her lips before she was interrupted.

"So, how are you?" Asked Kevin, who had liked Nat for as long as he had known her.
"Fine" replied Nat with a puff of smoke when her phone buzzed
Van
Van- what is going on??
Nat- what do you mean?
Van- walking into school with her, going to bio with her?
Nat-oh yeah, it was nothing
Van- does nothing include you being totally obsessed with her?
Nat-what no, she was just being nice
Nat-weirdo
Van-whatever, get to practice it's starting
Nat- k

Nat headed to the now empty changing room and got changed, being careful to avoid all her bruises and smudge her makeup. Then she went to head outside but before she could she was being pulled aside by coach Martinez.

"Natalie I need to talk to you"
"To my office please"
"Uh ok" replied Nat
Natalie followed coach into his office and sat down opposite him.
"Nat it's about your grades, your sitting at a D average and we need to get that up to a B- average or your not going to be allowed to stay on the team"
"What?!? That's bullshit" shouted Nat
"I'm sorry Natalie"
Just then Nat hear a sound behind her and turned around. Lottie was standing in the doorway.
"Sorry to uh interrupt, coach can I talk to you?"
"Yes come in, think about it Natalie"

Nat looked at Lottie as they brushed past each other, not returning Lottie's smile and started walking towards the field, soccer could clear her mind. It always did.

Half an hour later they finished practice and all the girls headed back to the changing room, Nat felt better, she wasn't angry or sad, but, she was nervous... right. Lottie. She was going home with Charlotte fucking Matthews
