Roughly a year ago I came across this book at a the Sunset Tourist Park book exchange in Mount Isa.
This morning I was tiding and this book sparked the memory of how it came to be in my life.
So I will share with you my story...I chose the book and took it home.
I didn't read the book straight away.
I've always loved books, always bought books that I felt I just had to have.
They symbolised something to be. The words or the photo on the cover would catch my heart and soul in some level and I wanted that information that lay inside. But for so many of my books, they often weren't read. No different to this book.
I never read it.
It sat on my table until the very lady that had dropped that book at that book exchange appeared in my life. That lady was Monique, I had been following Monique and Ewrin's adventures travelling around Australia on horseback since they had begun their adventures roughly two years prior.
Tales of the Trail Australia.
I absolutely loved what they were doing. It was something I had dreamed of as a kid and actually played it out with my dolls and toy horses.
Letting my inner child play out fantasies of riding my horse into the bush with my dog beside me. Camping out overnight in the bush. Having beautiful adventures on horseback surrounded by nature, feeling free and safe. They were living out there dream, they were living out my dream.
So by following someone's life I too was able to fulfil that dream in a sense.
The couple have since finished the trip around Australia, but I still follow them, because they still share their stories and memories, and by reliving some moments we are able to learn new things we may have not noticed before, relive beautiful moments and share that love , experience and feelings with like minded people. So at the time I was caretaking at the campdraft grounds in Mt Isa.
I was sitting at my table and a car pulled up.
That was weird because the camp draft grounds were locked. So someone who had a key had come in.
So I wasn't really worried but curious all the same...
It was Monique and Ewrin from Tales of the Trail, with people that had access to the grounds.
I was bloody star struck. To me these people were famous!!
I had been following their journey since a few days in and .. and .. and they were here!!! I was meeting them!!!!
I had seen they were nearing Cloncurry on their travels a week or so prior and got a little excited with the thought of them just being in the same town as me.. but now they were standing in front of me. Eekkk (insert squealing fan) but totally keeping my cool on the outside. Like.. oh yeah... ok... hi (play it cool Nina, play it cool!)
So I was meeting them yes.. but they were enquiring about staying here.
(Somebody pick me up off the ground!)
They were needing somewhere to stay to rest the horses, rest themselves, reorganise their truck and restock horse feed, food and other supplies before making their way across the Barkley, from QLD - NT.So after a week or so Monique came over to the camper trailer that I was living in at the campdraft grounds for a chat.
I can't remember her exact words but it was something like "Oh you got that book, I dropped it at the book exchange."
As I try to write this story I'm currently a little lost for works, because that memory is now coming up with new meanings but still remembering the original meanings. The fact that this lady had that book,
The lady that I had been following
Had dropped that book off at a book exchange
And that I had been looking in that very place
Found the book that too had sparked a special meaning within her
To then lead her to be sitting right in front of me
I'm still a little 😳 to be able to write any more.
So I will leave it at that for now.
No doubt if I read this again I would write something more. But that's beauty of hindsight and reflection.
Always more to gain the more awareness you have.So to this day I still haven't read this book and I will be dropping this book at a book exchange to find its next owner.
Why didn't I read it.... Because it already have given me the information I had wanted. To be mindful, to be present to live in the here and now. That is what Monique was doing by travelling around Australia with her husband, dog and two horses. They were living their best life.
Travelling and enjoying nature. Always posting photos of the beautiful things they came across. So as I write this I think about the bigger picture I could have missed by actually reading this book. Absolutely I would have learnt something from reading the book but look what I learnt from just picking the book up and taking it home!!
I held onto this book only because of what it represented in me and not the words it used.
This story I pulled from my Facebook post and edited it to be the story it is now, including the next sentence that pulled at my heart strings as I read it again.
The more detailed story will be one day published for many more people to read and enjoy. But for now I think it sums up a beautiful message 🥰And Monique if you are reading this, (edit, I didn't have to tag her in this post, but a few hours later she commented on the post. I knew she would see it 🤭) Thank you for being you and sharing yours and Erwin's adventures with Olly, Giles and Tonto across Australia with the world. I'm so greatful for the things you have sparked within me. Much Love Monique. 🥰
So you can call this story...
