Yawning is the body's way of showing we are relaxed. When we have a loose jaw we have loose hips. It's just biomechanics. Yawing is also our body's way of getting more oxygen flowing around the body. When we are stressed or in a flight and fight respond we tense up and breathing becomes mechanical. We no longer think how to breath. Survival mode has kicked in and we are running in auto pilot and our breathing is doing the same thing.
So when we start to relax, we start to take big breaths because our body is starting to respond to the need for more oxygen to the other parts of our body we need. Not just for survival. But for things like rest and digestion.Stress is a normal part of life. Nature has stressors in it all the time. We just learn how to deal with them. That's where we can learn different ways of dealing with stressors.
And also learning how to spot our stressors when they happen. So as you read this - relax your jaw. I bet you didn't realise how tight it was until I mentioned it.
Drop your shoulders.
Now I bet you're ready to take a deeper breath.
And now you are well on your way to being more relaxed.
That's why breathing is so important when you ride your horses.
I know you understand that on a survival level but when you understand how having a tight jaw can lead to having tight hips and how those tight hips can lead to having a tight horse.
Then you can start to do things differently.I will go into this more in my next chapter where I explain more about a photo of me and Jim.
