Each photo has been able to tell me a story about my horse.
He is a big smooth mover of a horse. This being his third ever dressage competition after a race career, he is transitioning into a soft frame really well.
The tension I can see by his open mouth is just letting me understand that he is still tense and doing his very best to relax the only way he knows how.
By moving his jaw to stimulate relaxation.
He has his head in a lowered position to encourage relaxation aswell.
I did not force this head position I simply asked for forward movement and allowed him to stretch his neck where he wanted to put it.
But I had to be relaxed also.
In this photo I had my mouth closed. A reasonable neutral face and reasonable relaxation in my body, that also shows with the horse's movement.
