Surprisingly, Lucas and i were the first ones to reach the cafe. Which was weird because Octavia would already be here sweeping and wiping tables waiting for customers to arrive.
"Where's Octavia?" Lucas asked me and i shrugged.
Lucas would pick me up every day for work since we lived just across each other, with a small road separating us. Thankfully, his old motorbike didn't break down today so we were quite on time. We had grown up together and since our parents were close friends, this instantly led us to being best friends ever since we were born. We went to the same high school, but headed off to different college, him in engineering school, while i went off to study at one of the most prestigious arts school. Even though we headed of to different schools, we did not drift apart, but were still as tight as ever.
High school times with Lucas were memorable with his quick sense of humour and overly dramatic way of describing things. Unfortunately, i always had to be his shoulder to cry on whenever he goes through a bad break up and staying up late at night to accompany him, while he rants on and on about the girl, or making plans on how to get the girl back. I would then have to help him in whatever plan he has up his sleeves.
I tied my apron around my waist and started to open the cashier and made sure that the cakes were placed neatly in the chiller just beside the counter. Lucas switched on the heater for the water to boil and opened a fresh new packet of coffee beans, pouring it into the grinder.
'Ding!'
We both looked up to see Octavia hurrying into the cafe, her forest green eyes looked tired and dull as she let out a huge yawn.
"Good morning you guys! It's such a nice surprise that you're all earlier than me." Octavia laughed and i smiled.
"Lucas's old thing didn't break down so that was a very good thing."
I looked over at him to see him rolling his eyes. "Or more like thankfully no cats were stuck on trees so we didn't have to stop to save them."
Now it was my turn to roll my eyes.
"Anyway Octavia, why do you look so tired?" Lucas turned to ask her and she lets out another adorable sleepy yawn.
"I stayed up almost all night coming up with new recipes for my Rainboom cake."
"How is it coming along?"
"Very good actually!" Her eyes lights up. "I have came up with a great recipe, i just need to get started on it and hope Blaze will approve it!"
I clapped my hands, "What are you waiting for girl? Go and get started! I'll make one of my Matcha latte for you, you look like you could use it." She nods and heads off into the kitchen to start baking while i piled my hair up into a messy bun on the top of my head and started making one of Octavia's favourite Matcha drink.
'Ding!'
I looked over my shoulder to see Cadence sauntering into the cafe with a stack of books in her arms. Lucas immediately drops whatever he was doing to tend to her needs. I mentally rolled my eyes. Lucas might say that he didn't like Cadence anymore but his actions speak otherwise.
"Hey, one Espresso Con Panna please." Cadence throws Lucas a small smile as he returns one sappy one back.
"Sure, anything else Cadence?"
She shakes her head. "I'll order the rest later, thank you." She turns and goes to her usual table and starts opening her books to read.
Lucas grins happily and i give him the stink eye as he did a little dance towards me. "She smiled at me!" He says and gave me the jazz hands.
