Chapter 42: wolves

The first light of dawn peeked through the blinds of Asteria's room. She stirred in her sleep, her eyes fluttering open to the soft hues of the morning. With a languid stretch, she threw off her blanket and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Mmm...Odette," she called out, her voice still thick with sleep. "Could you make me breakfast, please?"

Odette, who was tidying up the living room, heard Asteria's request and nodded with a warm smile. "Of course, Asteria," she replied, heading towards the kitchen.

Before she could start, she glanced at the corner where Caturix, their pet, was lazily sprawled. "Tom," she called out to her husband, who was reading the newspaper, "Could you carry Caturix to his spot? He seems to be in the way here."

Tom chuckled, folding the newspaper and setting it aside. "Sure thing, Odette," he said, lifting the hefty Caturix with ease and carrying him to his designated spot.

As Odette began to prepare breakfast, a sudden noise from outside the window caught Tom's attention. He turned his head towards the source of the sound, curiosity piqued.

"What was that?" he wondered aloud, straining his ears to listen. The peaceful morning suddenly took an interesting turn, and the day was just getting started

With a sense of unease, Tom approached the window, his heart pounding in his chest. He cautiously pushed the window open, the cool morning breeze brushing against his face. His eyes widened in surprise as he took in the sight before him.

A pack of wolves had gathered outside their home, their eyes gleaming with a predatory glint. Their attention was fixed on one thing - Caturix. The wolves' hungry gazes were locked on their pet, their intentions clear.

"Oh no, they're after Caturix," Tom muttered, his voice filled with worry. The sight of the wolves sent a chill down his spine, but he knew he had to protect Caturix.

Quickly, he turned back to the room, his eyes meeting Odette's. "Odette, we have a problem," he said urgently, "There are wolves outside, and they seem to want Caturix."

Odette, who had been in the middle of cooking, dropped her spatula in shock. "What?" she exclaimed, rushing over to the window to see for herself.

The peaceful morning had taken a sudden, dangerous turn. The threat of the wolves loomed over them, casting a shadow over their home. But Tom and Odette knew they would do whatever it took to protect their beloved Caturix. The day had just begun, and already, it was proving to be an eventful one.
