Six AM sharp, banging on the door. Every day for a week. I almost got used to it and started waking up just minutes before the "alarm" went off. My days were completely dull, nothing new except the newfound friendship with Sherry, the girl that I saw on the first day.
She was nice and kind and we found we had a lot in common as we ate our breakfast together each morning. She took me around the place, showed me every nook and cranny, and even enlightened me on where to buy under-the-counter cigarettes. Turns out the place was bigger than I thought - they had something like a marketplace, something like a bar that even had four pool tables, an infirmary, and a doctor's office, multiple living quarters, depending on the hierarchy, people were well-organized. They worked for points which they could exchange for stuff they needed - from food to clothes, to seeing the doctor. The more you provided - the more points you had. Negan's lieutenants and the highest members of the Saviors had more privileges, some of them didn't even need to exchange points, like Simon. Guess I was one of those people because I didn't need to collect points or anything, got everything for free. Although I was as high in rank as Dwight or Arat for example.
Sherry told me that before Negan the place was run by some other group of men, that were terrible and their methods were even harsher. They were the ones that started taking over other communities, ruled over them by fear and intimidation. There were almost no rules around - people beat other people up, they raped, they slaughtered for a can of soup. So Negan decided to take over, organized a mutiny, and killed off the former leader. He established clear new rules, got everyone and everything in line, made the whole point system, and put an end to all of the chaos around. He called the place "the Sanctuary" and the people "the Saviors". And since then almost everyone loved or admired him, at least those who weren't on his bad side. Because he was their savior. He saved them from their own selves. Sherry said although his methods were hardcore, it was better than before, because their former leader was a total anarchist and everything was shitty, people were acting like complete feral animals. Negan knew people needed rules, they needed order and they needed stimuli to keep going and keep them in check. They needed to be rewarded if they did good and they also needed to know they're going to be punished if they did bad. And Negan did just that - without hesitation. No killing without a reason, not amongst themselves at least, not if he didn't give out direct orders. No stealing from him, no raping, no lying, no killing children, no this and that and the other thing. Simple rules. Easy to follow. And if you didn't - chop chop. What a hero, I thought sarcastically. But still, it was somehow admirable how he managed to control over 600 people and each one called themselves "Negan". They were all Negan.
Although the new information and insight didn't change the way I felt towards him, it did make me wonder for a brief second if maybe he wasn't a total monster. I brushed that thought away quickly though.
I and Sherry spent most of the afternoons together - me working out, her watching me, and talking. Sherry then confided to me that she was one of Negan's so-called "wives", which explained the short black dress and the high heels and her looking like a model each and every day. That made me loathe him even more. I already knew about his so-called "wives" from Carl, but now I was seeing things firsthand. Apparently, he had a whole harem of women, all of which made a deal with him in a dire situation, and in return for him helping them, they had to become his wives. Of course, that meant they only stayed inside, couldn't be seen with their boyfriends or husbands, had a huge distastefully but lavishly decorated room, and got all of the benefits of fucking him. Those were - food, drinks, clothes, jewelry, privilege amongst others, except his lieutenants, and many more. This information only confirmed my inkling that he was totally out of his mind and had some power-related complex. He was nowhere to be seen in recent days though.
The lanky blonde guy Christian also tried to get to know me and unsuccessfully flirt with me, but got nowhere with his pathetic attempts.
On the seventh day, Simon came to me to let me know I was needed in a meeting. They wanted more of my intel for the odd group we stumbled upon and coordinates of where we saw them around Alexandria. That was finally something interesting so I was content to help. I then pulled Simon to the side and told him I wanted to warn my people. He only said I should talk to the "big boss."
