Mom and Dad are scheduled to leave today, but since it’s a Saturday and Mom insisted that we should spend some quality time with the whole family, Dad told his secretary to reschedule the flight on Monday. So since Mom and Dad are leaving, the plans Kiefer and I made with our friends were cancelled too because we are gonna spend some family time. Britt, Jeremy and the kids are also joining and they are already on their way.

Mom and I decided last night to have a barbeque at the backyard, so early this morning Mom went to the groceries with Dad and bought everything we needed. We’ll do the barbeque tonight, and since it’s already afternoon, we already started working.

Kief and Dad were outside, getting the yard ready while Mom and I are in the kitchen; her getting all the ingredients ready to cook and me sitting in the island with pop tarts in my hand. What? You expect me to help mom cook? They’ve paid so much money to get this house and I am not going to burn it because of my mad cooking skills okay? Besides, tasting if the cooks did their best is way harder than cooking.

Just then, the doorbell rang and I got up to open it.

“Saab, could you che—”

“Already on my way, Mom!” I called over my shoulder. I walked to the door and opened it, and then I was immediately tackled by my favorite nieces in the whole wide world. They’re the only nieces I have though, so yeah.

“Aunt Saab!” Rose and Lily exclaimed, both clinging on each of my legs.

I smiled. “Hey kids, care to let my legs go and hug the real me?” They giggled and let me go, so I kneeled down and hugged them.

“We missed you, Aunt Saab,” Rose said, looking at me.

I kissed her cheek, and did the same to Lily. “I missed you too, kids. Now why don’t you go and run at the kitchen to give Grams a kiss?” The twins nodded, then got out of my arms and ran to the kitchen, leaving me out of balance that I fell butt-first on the floor. I heard a laugh coming from my front.

“Oh no worries, I’m fine here watching my sister laugh her ass off because she just saw my butt kiss the floor,” I said sarcastically.

She just laughed harder. Eventually, she stopped laughing and offered me a hand, which I gladly took. She pulled me up and into her arms, hugging me like there’s no tomorrow. “I missed you, Kiddo,” Britt whispered, kissing my cheek.

“I missed you too, Britt. Come, Mom needs help in the kitchen.”

“And you’re not helping her because?” She raised her eyebrows at me.

“Because we love the house and we don’t want it to burn,” it was Dad who answered that, appearing behind me.

Britt laughed uttering a silent, “of course,” and then was pulled into Dad’s arms. And then Jeremy appeared on the front door with bags of groceries in his arms. I looked at him with raised eyebrow.

“Britt insisted to go shopping for you. You need food for the whole week,” Jeremy explained as he entered the house.

I smiled gratefully at him. “You know I love you, right?”

He laughed. “Yes. You love me when I bring you food, I buy you things, or when I drive you somewhere you wanna go. In short, you love me when you need something from me.”

“Oh com’on,” I pouted. “I always need something from you, so I always love you!”

Everyone joined in laughing. “Yeah, sure. Now go help me with this thing, there’s more in the car.” I nodded and Jeremy and got out of the house, heading for his car. The trunk was still open, so I grabbed all the things that I’m capable of getting but then I struggled to close the trunk.
