SHANNON'S POV

It was already 12 midnight, and that means it's already my birthday. I didn't plan on sleeping until I get my first call. Since 2009, I've been completely sleepless on my birthday. Because for once in a year, I stay up late to talk to the first one to always greet me on my birthday, my boyfriend, Julius.

It's almost 6 in the morning and I'm really sleepy, but there's still no call. Not from him. Not from anyone. By the time the sun rises, I was tired and exhausted. Guess I stayed up for nothing. But it's my birthday, and I don't wanna be down for the rest of the day. Besides, I'm pretty sure that Julius is just tired, that's why he didn't call me. I decided to just sleep for a while.

Around 9 in the morning, I was already up and dressed for my day. When I reached the dining room, Mom and Dad was sitting in their seats with a big smile on their faces. When they saw me coming in, they stood up and ran to me and gave me a hug.

"Happy birthday, darling!" My Dad greeted me, followed by Mom before they both kissed me on both sides of my cheeks.

"Thanks you guys, I feel so loved!" I smiled.

And then my sister stood up from her seat and walked towards me. "Happy birthday, Shay-shay," she whispered in my ear.

I smiled as we pulled out from each other. "Thanks, Jess. I'm so glad you could come."

Jessie's a very busy woman. After graduating 4 years ago, she moved to New York to live her dream, be an editor-in-chief of a very successful magazine. From time to time, she'd go home here with us. But only when it's important occasions and whenever she's free. And being the editor-in-chief, she's never free. That's why I'm thankful that she was able to come down here today.

We all sat down at our chairs around the dining table and began eating breakfast. While doing so, we talked about the party tonight. Since it's my seventeenth birthday, and I only have one chance at being seventeen, we decided to throw a party. It's just a gathering with my high school friends, some family members and close friends from other places. The day is divided into three parts. The first part is at lunch, where all my relatives will be coming here for a get together. The second one's in the afternoon, where Dad's going to throw a barbeque at the backyard for the adults while I'm be spending time with my cousins and all that. And then, the last and my most favorite part, the party tonight.

I invited half of the population of our high school for tonight. But the one that I'll be looking forward the most is when Julius arrived here with the surprise gift that he's been talking to me about. I've been nagging him to tell me even just one clue about this gift, but being his stubborn self, he didn't hint about anything. And that's what I'm excited about, to see him and finally know about this surprise gift.

A knock on my door was heard and then it creaked open slightly and in appeared my sister. I smiled warmly at her. "Hey Jess, come in."

She smirked. "Even if you kick me out, I'm still coming in."

"Of course you are," I rolled my eyes. She walked over to my bed and sat beside me and then examined my room.

Nothing changed around here to be honest. I still have the same messy closet on my right, my bathroom just beside it, shelves full of magazines from gossips to food to fashion and so on, ranks and ranks of shoes and my study table at the corner near my window. The walls are still its usual pink and purple, the sheets of the bed with the same color and my polka dotted carpet.
