Sam hesitated before she caught up to me about thirty minutes later and cleared her throat, and I looked at her before I looked forward again. She glanced at me from the corner of her eye before she looked toward the way we were going. "Do you know where you are going?" she asked and looked at me again. "Or are you lost and don't want to admit it?"
"Hmph." I bit back a small smirk before I cleared my throat and shook my head, growing serious. "I'm not lost," I replied. "Even though I don't know where we are going, I am not lost."
"Are you sure?" Sam asked and looked at me from the corner of her eye while she raised an eyebrow in question. She set her jaw and narrowed her eyes, trying to study me closer, and I nodded in confirmation. "I mean, we are in the middle of nowhere with nothing around us."
I bit back a small snort and nodded again. "I know, and I am a bit worried about that..." I looked around and bit the inside of my lip before I looked at her, furrowing my brows. "But I have this weird gut feeling that this is the way that we need to go."
I bit back an annoyed sigh and shook my head, pursing my lips in annoyance before I looked at her with a raised eyebrow in question. "Can't you feel it, or is it just me?"
Sam furrowed her brows and stopped walking, and we stopped and turned toward her, not wanting to leave her alone. She tucked her head closer to her chest and pressed her lips into a thin line, and I had a feeling that she was trying to figure out what I meant and if she could feel it, too.
I stayed silent and placed my hands behind my back while I waited for her, and my mate moved to my side. I glanced at him from the corner of my eye and offered him a tight smile, and he smiled back and dipped his head closer to his chest.
Sam huffed and shook her head, clearing herself from whatever thoughts entered her head. She blinked and blinked again before she pursed her lips in annoyance, turning her gaze toward me. "No," she said, her voice cold and filled with annoyance. "I can not feel it. What does it feel like?"
I pressed my lips into a thin line before I shrugged and grimaced. "I don't know," I admitted before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet, furrowing my brows and tucking my head closer to my chest, trying to find the best way to describe it. "It feels like there is this pull like a bond or something, and it's pulling me into the direction where I need to go."
Sam set her jaw and narrowed her eyes before she looked at my mate. "Can you feel it?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and Cooper smiled apologetically before he shook his head.
"Unfortunately, I can not feel whatever Ry is feeling," Cooper said before he cleared his throat and grew serious. "I wish that I did, but for some reason, I can not."
"So what if you are lying?" Garrett asked and looked at me with a raised eyebrow in question. "And you are leading us to our deaths?"
I frowned and narrowed my eyes while I looked at him. "Do you really think I would lead them to their death?" I asked, gesturing to my son and Cason, and Garrett bit back a small snort because I didn't gesture toward my mate.
"I mean, what about your mate?" he asked and gestured to him, and I glanced at my mate before I looked at Garrett with a raised eyebrow. "I thought you wouldn't lead him to his death."
"I mean..." I said and shrugged and grimaced, and Cooper bit back a small snort and held back an eye roll. "I have done it before, and I will probably do it again," I glanced at him and winked teasingly, and my mate rolled his eyes and scowled playfully.
"I hope not," Cooper said and shook his head, biting back a small chuckle. "However, I wouldn't be surprised if you do." He winked teasingly, and I bit back a small smirk.
