Nino, Meech, Mekhi, and Dani were all in Dani's house, waiting for Shae to arrive

"Where Kenni?" Meechie asked as he lit up the candles on Shae's birthday cake.

"She's, busy, I guess." Dani answered unsurely.

"Where she at? I know that tone." Meech implied, now looking at Dani who shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.

"The hospital." Dani responded immediately since she hated being under pressure.

"For what?" All the boys asked in sync, making Dani roll her eyes.

"Y'all listen to every conversation I have on the phone and don't want to listen to the one where y'all going to keep asking questions about." Dani spat, as she pushed the cake into the center of the island counter.

"Man, what she at the hospital for?" Nino asked the question that the other two boys were going to ask. Mekhi was actually curious, he hadn't spoken to Kenori since he left her house two days prior. She seemed so out of it after the surprise visit with her mother, seemed like when her mother left a part of her communicative and expressive sides did too.

That whole situation had him wondering, maybe that's why she didn't like talking about her family, they all are just using her for money and never cared about her.

And what was it about her mother saying her dad would've got her next? It stayed in his mind constantly, he didn't know why. Why did it bother him so much?

"She thinks she had the flu, yesterday when it was raining she stayed in the rain more time than she intended, so she at the hospital and they are taking forever."

"Why was she in the rain anyways?" Nino asked

"Groceries, I think and she also fell." Dani explained making a yikes face.

"Ight, what y'all get her smart mouth ass?" Nino asked about Shae's gifts, changing the subject.

"Tape, double sided." Meech stated in a serious tone. Dani silently gasped as she turned around to face him, "I'm just playing. I got her that bag that she saw at the mall that day, why the hell Dolce and Gabbana bags cost so much and got limited storage. Bet you I won't do that shit again." Meech explained as if he was disappointed.

"Damn, Dani got her ass candied pineapples, I want some so she need to hurry her ass up."

"You big as hell." Meech spat at him and he smacked his lips. "You be tip riding, on my momma." Nino shook his head at the insult.

"What you get her, Khi?" Dani questioned, making Mekhi look up at her. "Uh, Bath and Body works, but you knew this though." Mekhi shook his head at Dani who smiled. Dani helped him choose out plenty of scents from there, he spent two hundred dollars or so, since there was no sale, everything was fifteen dollars or more.

"And you?" Dani asked Nino, poking his arm. "A gift card from Chick-fil-A."

"This nigga." Mekhi busted out laughing because they all knew Nino was one hundred percent serious. Mekhi rubbed his arm across his sleeve tattoo as he coughed after laughing so aggressively.
