A few days after what happened in the gym with the punching bag Mom calls me down for a special meeting. I follow the assistant that she sent to show me the way to the room that I was going to meet Mom in. He hasn’t said a word to me since he came to my bedroom early this morning; I guess he isn’t a morning person. As he walks far ahead of me I see that on his hip is a large scary looking gun, I wonder why Mom’s assistant would be carrying one.
Before I can think any more about the man and the scary gun we stop at a door and the man proceeds to knock on it before he turns to me. “Step inside, she will be waiting for you” he says to me before turning on his heel and walking away.
I open the door and the room looks just like the gym that I was in the other day but just scaled down a little bit. Instead of all of the weapons on the wall like in the other room there is only a small rack of various swords and knives. There are also a few of the training dummies and a few weights and standing by a small table is, Mom. I run over to her and greet her with a hug hello. “Good morning Mom, why are we meeting here today?” I say to her as we sit in the chairs around the table.
“Today we are going to do a little personal training to work on your power. With your power you can control electricity and that is what happened to you when you hit the punching bag. You were able to focus a small amount of energy and channel it into your fist and that is what made those sparks fly. I want to help you get better control over your power because I believe that it can go much further than that.”
I think that it is so cool that I have super powers, even if Buddy thinks that it is lame. I still never got a chance to ask him or Sadie what their powers were but I am sure that they know more about theirs then I do with mine. I watch as Mom goes into a large bag that is on the table and pulls out a light bulb and hands it to me. “I want you to make this light bulb light up” she says as she digs though the bag again for a pen and notepad. I hold the light tight with both of my hands and scare at the bulb trying to make it light up but nothing happens. I look up at Mom with a slight frown on my face,” I think the other day was just a mistake, maybe I can’t control electricity.”
Mom looks at me and puts a reassuring hand on mine,” you just need to focus and feel the power in your core and then push it outwards towards your hands and finally to your fingers.” Mom leans back into her chair and I close my eyes and think about what she said. I imagine a ball of energy in the center of my body and I slowly move it out to my hands. As I move the ball I can feel the hairs on my arm start to stand up and the tingling feeling from before comes back. I push past it and send the energy to my fingers and when I open my eyes I see the light bulb slowly start to illuminate.
I laugh as the bulb gets brighter and brighter looking up at Mom to make sure that she is seeing it too. She gives me a big smile and starts taking notes on the pad. I slowly send the energy back into my hands and when I do the light goes with it. “I did it!” I say to Mom when the final glimpse on light flickers away from the light bulb.
“See I told you that you could do it Gizmo, you just need to have confidence. Now with that going better than I had hoped let’s try something else. I want you to do the same thing but this time without the light bulb.”
I set the light bulb on the table and sit there not really sure what Mom wants me to do. “Just put your hands a few inches apart and have the energy flow just like before but start it at your left hand and send it into your right” Mom says to me in a tone that makes it seem like it should have been obvious. I do as she said and set my hands a few inches apart and just like before I take the energy and send it towards my left hand. When it gets to my fingers they start to glow slightly and then small sparks begin to shoot out. The sparks start to buzz around the tips of my fingers and when I push the energy further the sparks turn into a steady stream of electrical current. The current goes from my left hand and straight into the finger tips in my right and when it does it feel a slight twinge of pain but it soon becomes numb.
