Chapter 9

I walk around my room throwing the little possessions I have into a small duffle bag that Buddy gave me. I’m not even sure if I want to leave but I know that part of me doesn’t want to disappoint Buddy and Sadie so I finish packing up my stuff and end out to the living room.  I toss my bag next to theirs and sit next to them on the couch where they are looking over a map that Sadie drew up. “…once we get here, Gizmo you will have to disable the alarm system so that we can get outside and then all we have to worry about are the Sentries” she says looking at me and Buddy.

            “I’m pretty sure I will be able to disarm the alarm but what are the Sentries?” I ask her.

            “Not “what” little man but “who”. The Sentries were the first people that Mom created and she uses them to guard the compound. Mostly to keep everyone out but also to keep us in” Buddy explains.

            “Oh wow, so then what are their powers?”

            “Well there are only two of them; Rocky and Daisy. Rocky has the power to control earth such as rocks, dirt and even metal. He is very strong and powerful which will make him the hardest to get past. Then there is Daisy, she is probably the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She has long blonde hair with cute streaks of red and orange in it and sometimes she has it pulled back into a ponytail and …” Buddy starts to trail off and I can tell that he is envisioning something in his mind.

            “BUDDY, SNAP OUT OF IT!” Sadie yells at him as she hits him in the head with the map.

            “Oh sorry, anyways besides her beauty she also has the power to control and manipulate plant life. I know that it sounds kinda lame but I have seen her to some serious damage so she isn’t going to be any easier than Rocky.”

            “Okay well then what is the plan to get past them?”

            “Even though there are three of us and only two of them I really want to avoid a head on approach. So what I am thinking is if I can get close enough I can just make them go to sleep and by time they wake up to tell anyone we will be long gone. We just have to hit them at the right moment when they are both in their guard shake and not out patrolling” Sadie tells us. Buddy and I look at each other and nod our heads.

            We all grab out bags and head out the door making sure there was no one in the hallway. We let Sadie take the lead as we move through the maze of corridors and stairways all the while avoiding people and cameras. After some close calls we come face to face with a door that I have never seen before. Off to the side of it there is a panel that kind of looks like the one that our door has but a lot more high tech. Sadie steps to the side and looks at me,” you’re up.”

            I walk up to the panel and press my hand to it and let my mind meld with the machine,” okay it’s done” I turn and say to them after a few seconds.

            “What do you mean it’s done? You didn’t even zap the thing yet!” Buddy says looking bewildered.

            “If I “zapped” the whole system they would know about it in a matter of minutes so what I did was tell the system to shut down for about an hour. I figure that way no one will know that I messed with it” I say to him with a smile.

            “See I told you that his power of being able to turn off electronics would come in handy!” Buddy says turning to Sadie. Sadie just shakes her head and takes her place back in the front and slowly opens the door.

            When I take my first step out into the darkness of the night I smell something that I never have before, fresh air. I take as deep a breath as I possibly can and all of the smells the fill my nose are amazing. Not only are there new smells but I also see something that I have only seen in pictures, trees. The whole landscape is a dense wood with tall full trees that tower over us. Hearing Sadie whisper my name I remember what I was doing and I follow her lead and get into a crouched position. Making our way as silently as we can through the woods until I see a large wooden cabin and Sadie starts to head towards it.
