Bruce leads me down to the lab.
My heart is beating out of my chest. What he said, "Violet you might wanna come see this" can only mean one thing.
I sprint down the stairs and my thoughts come true.
Nat is sitting up. She's conscious. She's....eating a bagel?
Bucky follows right after me, hot chocolate still in clutch. He stops dead in his tracks when he sees her too, but not before he rests his metal arm on my shoulder.
Tony spots me and comes over.
"Now Violet, you have to understand, she's still a little fragile. She's confused too, like so confused I had to remind her how to put cream cheese on a bagel." He says.
"I.....ok," I say, out of breath. I push past him to get to Natasha.
Our eyes meet. She looks so alone, there's so much fear behind those eyes, I can tell. I've been there before.
"Hey Nat," I say. Oh god, the tears are coming now.
"Who?" She responds.
I turn to Tony.
"Uh, Tony? Does she not know her name?" I ponder.
"No Violet, she knows who she is, but she doesn't know who you are."
And just like that, my heart falls out of my chest and onto the floor and shatters into a million pieces. My sister doesn't remember me. How could this happen? How does Nat not know who I am?
I wipe my tears and swiftly exit the room. I get back to my room and break down crying. The tears come and they just don't stop.
Hours pass. Painstaking hours I spent bawling. Then suddenly there's a knock at my door.
I slowly get up and open the door to see Bucky standing there with a pizza and powdered doughnuts.
"Hey....I know things didn't go the way you wanted today, but I thought maybe pizza and a movie might help take your mind off it. Sorry I didn't come up sooner, I thought I should probably give you space." He says.
I give him a soft smile and pull him into my room.
"yes, that would be wonderful," I say.
we sit on my bed.
"OK, what do you wanna watch?" He says.
"Hm, how about The Shining?"
"I've never seen that one."
"Perfect," I say.
