She takes a long sigh and sits down.
“this has been running in our bloodline for thousands of years, so yes.” she says calmly, which is pissing me off, how can you tell your youngest daughter that her whole bloodline are assassins this calmly. I wasnt a part of this fuckery for 17 years and now she dragged me into this, why does she wants me here, a student from a English school that only have some skills with a sword thats all, how am I so important to the royal assassins?
“you are our only chance left for this kingdom. We need a new Queen, and it might be you.”
Suddenly, my brain is fogged. I am her youngest daughter, I cannot be Queen, the way I know it, the oldest child will be next in line for the throne, not the youngest that isn't right!
“Fabrizo will be the next king not me! Then Chiara if Fabrizo doesn't have kids. Then Morgana if Chiara doesn't has-” she holds up a hand to stop me from talking, I stop.
“Fabrizo has failed me and the whole kingdom. He chose love over the crown”
A breath catches in my throat.
“I respect that, I want my son to be happy, he is married to the French princess. Now you see child, the French king killed your father 15 years ago, we cannot allow Fabrizo to be king AND be married to a past enemy. We are not enemies anymore, but the tragedy still stands.”
I slowly nod, suddenly I'm small again, I go quiet.
She sighs, sadly. “Chiara is married with a spanish Prince.” she says, quietly. Touching the bridge of her nose in between her thumb on her finger, another sigh. “we can't make her queen, unless she's married with an Italian royal, I didn't force her and I won't, I want her happy. Those are the rules.” now I'm taken back by realization, me and Morgana are not married, one of us could be Queen. Fabrizo was a fool to marry a French, but that's his love, same goes for Chiara, I hope Morgana marries an Italian royal, if she doesn't, I will be crowned Queen, without a choice.
“Morgana is our last chance yes, but what if she does the same mistake too? I need you Morana. And I want to make you the powerful Queen that one day you will be.”
She says, silvery, sympathetic.
“but if you marry someone just for your country without love, you will lose, you won't make it If it isn't from love”
