"I have a surprise for you," Rick tells me with a handful of picked flowers.
"Is it these beautiful flowers?" I ask, smiling up at him.
I'm leaning down at the garden in front of me. It's been a couple months since everything with the Governor went down. We have created a community filled with laughter and love. Judith is growing like wild and we actually have gardens.
"This is part of it," he answers me and reaches for my hand to help me up.
I take off my gloves and set them down before following behind him. He laces our fingers together and leads me around the side of the prison. I stop in my tracks when I see a blanket with a candle lit and my dad's book sitting there.
"What the-"
"I want to learn more about you so Sam helped me with this idea. I want you to tell me about the monsters your dad hunted. I want you to tell me about the good and the bad. I want to know anything you feel comfortable sharing," he tells me.
I stare at him awe, "only if you do the same. I want to know more about you."
He nods and leads me to the blanket. This is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. I have never experienced courting before. It was only hookups and sneaking around. Daryl was obviously never a romantic like this. I'm in utter awe of Rick Grimes.
We spend hours out here just enjoying each other. I tell him about my childhood and he does the same. I'm surprised by how close him and Shane really were. They were like brothers. He tells me about Carl's first steps and how his first word was Shane's name. I can't help but laugh at that one. Carl loved Shane and I knew that. That was why I always offered to spend time with the both of them.
Rick leans back on the blanket and stares up at the sky. I lean down to press my lips against his. He doesn't hesitate to kiss me back. It doesn't take long for the kiss to become heated. I wrap my hand around the side of his neck as he holds onto my waist.
A soft cry breaks us apart. We both sit up just as Carl reaches us with Judith in his arms.
"I know you guys are on a date but I thought we could have family time. You have been out here forever," Carl says the end dramatically as he sits down.
I laugh, "Of course we can have family time. Are my brothers snooping around as well?"
He shrugs, "I don't think so."
Rick takes Judith and gently tosses her in the air and catches her with ease. She's giggling as it happens. She's grown so much the past couple of months. These apocalypse babies must be crazy because she's crawling at six months old.
I lean over and leave kisses all over Judith's chubby little cheeks. Her giggle is the sweetest sound to exist.
I look over at Carl with a grin, "are you too old to be tickled?"
"You wouldn't dare!" His eyes widen just as I reach out to grab him. He squirms and laughs as I tickle his sides.
He catches my hands and turns it around on me. I can't contain my laughter as he tickles me back. It reminds me so much of being kids with Sam. We used to have tickle wars.
I never expected that the dead rising would be the reason I am able to have a family. Before this, we moved around too much for me to even think about settling down. Now, I have Rick and these two beautiful kids. I would do anything for them just as I would for my brothers.
Not even just them, the entire group is family now. Jo has always been family but we created a community. We would all go to war for each other and risk our lives to save one another.
I look past Carl to see Dean walking towards us with a stern expression on his face.
"Eleanor Winchester," he says in his dad voice.
"Yes?" I ask, innocently.
"Dad's journal. Now."
I grab the journal and hand it to him, "Yes sir."
"Stop yapping about family secrets!"
"I'm not!" I lie with a smile.
Rick laughs, "I know nothing."
"The lies!" Dean groans but still leans down to kiss Judith's head.
"You guys have family secrets?" Carl asks curiously.
"No way, kid," Dean answers.
"I had permission from Sammy," I defend myself and Rick.
"He doesn't give permission, I do," He answers.
"Oh please. You're not dad!" I point out.
"I'm basically your father," okay now I know he's joking.
I laugh, "no way."
"Whatever, daddy's girl."
