Free practice, qualifying and the sprint all went better than the Bahrain weekend did with Hannah. In free practice, the girl managed to have close to the best weekend of her life. She was close to topping the time sheets in FP1 and qualified P7 before finishing P6 in the sprint, scoring the points she wanted so bad last weekend.
"This is your best weekend, Han. Seems to be one of your best tracks where you get the most out of your car. Just one more event, the feature race." George smiles as he and Hannah sit in her drivers room after her warm ups are done. "I know. I am aware that I've done well in my sprint and qualifying but I have the feature race to focus on." Hannah says nonchalantly with a shrug. "You'll smash it. I know you will. Lets go get you in your car so you can prove that last week doesn't define you and that this week is your best week." George smiles, taking ahold of his sisters arms and pulling her onto her feet.
In her garage, Hannah places her ballycalva and helmet over her head, ensuring her head wear was securely fastened with the neck brace attached. She gave her older brother a quick high five before getting in her car. She puts her mind into pure focus mode to the feature race. "Radio check?" Hannah says through her radio. "Loud and clear, Han. Ready?" Michelle asks. "Always, Michelle. Lets do this." Hannah smiles, excited for the race.
The five lights go out and Hannah instantly puts her foot down gaining two places and moving up to P5, getting past Jak Crawford and Richard Verschoor. The DAMS team seemed to get hers and Arthur's strategies spot on. Hannah finishing P5 and Arthur finishing P8. "Yes Hannah! More points in your second F2 feature race! Great work this weekend!" Michelle says with excitment. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! What a weekend! Thank you everyone!" Hannah smiles as she drives slowly around the Jeddah track.
As she pulls into the pitlane, her car is wheeled back into the garage. The blonde takes her steering wheel out before jumping out the car. She instantly runs over to George, the Mercedes driver wrapping his arms around her. "You did it, Hannah! I'm so proud of you." George smiles as he tightly hugs his sister. "Thanks George. I'm so happy with the result." Hannah says giddily and George couldn't help but laugh at her excitement. "Go change and do the team debrief and I'll see you in my garage." George says, releasing Hannah from the hug.
"After I see Alex and Lily." Hannah grins before disappearing to her drivers room to change back into her Redbull clothing. Once her post-race team debrief was completed, Hannah heads to the F1 paddock and the Williams garage first. "Hannah! You did it!" Lily exclaims as she sees the youngest Russell. "I did, Lily! I did!" Hannah grins as she hugs her brothers best mates girlfriend. "You were incredible. Me and Alex were watching from here. George looked so proud of you." Lily says as she and Hannah sit down. "My car just seemed to come alive on the track." Hannah grins.
Just as she says that, Alex appears. "Hannah Russell. What a weekend for you!" the senior Williams driver smiles as the girl stands up and they share a friendly hug. "It doesn't seem real but it has happened. I'm definitely on a high from everything now." Hannah smiles. "Well, enjoy it as you deserve it." Alex says. "Definitely will. I better go to Mercedes and terrorize Toto and Mick." Hannah laughs before hugging Lily and Alex before disappearing.
She zips up her hoodie and heads into the Mercedes garage so she can support her older brother in his race. "Hannah, well done for this weekend. Redbull are very fortunate to have you as a junior driver which is a shame for us but was obviously your choice." Toto smiles as he hugs the girl, handing her George's cap that is always left in the garage for her. "Thanks Toto. And hi to you too Mick." the girl says, returning the CEO's warm hug before she gives Mick one.
The three stand at the back as they wait for Lewis and George to get into their cars. When he sees her, the older Mercedes driver quickly hug Hannah and congratulates her on her first points before heading onto the track, George following behind. The young girl sits with the Austrian and German as they watch the live timings and all the data as the race goes on.
At the end of the day, George treated Hannah to a meal so they both could celebrate a good weekend in Saudi Arabia. "You truly didn't have to do this, George. We could have ordered room service and watched a film." Hannah smiles. "Well, considering you got your first points and I got a podium, my little sister deserves a meal out. And it's nice to see you wearing black for Mercedes." George grins as he sits opposite his younger sister. "Well, I could have done dams blue but I decided to be nice considering you've brought me out and wore a dress in your team's colours." Hannah grins proudly as the duo enjoy their evening post-race.
