Aary's Pov
"How could you do this to me??"
Her voice sliced through the air, laced with hurt and accusation, and I felt my heart nearly stopping. The weight of her disappointing gaze bore down on me like a ton of bricks. She knew it. That's the only reason for her hurt. She knew about the contract and this is where I lose her. It felt like the fragile thread holding us together was unraveling before my eyes. No! It can't be happening.
As I kneeled in front of her, holding my breath for her to say something. Each second stretched into eternity as I waited for her to break the deafening silence with words, any words. Anything. But all she did was stare, her tear-streaked face haunting me, tearing me apart from inside. It was fucking killing me.
Finally, after what it felt like eternity, she sniffed, her voice trembling slightly, "It's past 3pm. How could you be this late for lunch after you promised??"
As soon as her words hit me, I closed my eyes, exhaling a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. The tension in my muscles ebbed away as the reality of the situation settled in. I had feared the worst, convinced that I had lost her for good.
Opening my eyes, I met her gaze once more, only to find her still pushing me away gently, her palm pressed against my chest, "You said you'd be here at lunch time. Now don't talk to me." She said and turned her gaze away from me.
I reached out, my trembling fingers brushing against her cheeks, struggling to find the right words amidst the whirlwind of emotions raging inside me, my breathing ragged, "I-I am so sorry, b-baby."
I said looking in her eyes, but I had no control over my mind and emotions. In a moment, I thought I really lost her.She stopped getting away from my hold and placed her hand over my heart. Her eyes widened as she palmed my cheek, making me look in her eyes, concern etched into every line of her face, "Aary, why-why are you panicking? Your heart, it's- it's beating so fast."
I didn't realise it until she pointed it out. My heart was beating really fast. My hands which palmed her face were shaking. I was losing my mind over a mere thought of losing her. I was even breathing hard as if I had just stopped running. But none of it mattered. All that mattered was I haven't lost her or her trust. I still had her.
I couldn't say anything. Just kept looking at her. How her expressions changed from hurt to care for me. Which brought me back to life. How her eyes softened, the hurt in her eyes giving way to understanding. She shook her head softly, "I'm sorry, it's just-"
She closed her eyes with a sigh before locking her eyes with me again, "Oh god, it's just my mood swings. And I took it all on you. I'm so sorry."I chuckled softly, touching my forehead to hers, "No, I'm sorry. I should've been here on time."
I had a last minute call with Niko. I told him about the message I received yesterday. He said he's is going to burn that Bianco group alive. We discussed about the way we'd track them down and kill them. In all of that haste, I got late. I messaged her yesterday that, I'd continue my ritual of having lunch with her everyday and yet I got here late. That too when she is having these mood swings.
