"Ugh..." My eyes flutter open, as I observe my surroundings.
The first thing I see is Polly, who is sitting in the same chair as last night.
"Are you alright? You passed out."
"I... I did...?" I blink once more.
Right. I did pass out.
... who was that voice? It sounded too real to be a hallucination.
"I'm serious, Basil. Rest up, okay? The flu seems to be taking a toll on you. I just want you to be okay."
The flu? ... She still thinks this is about the flu?
"..." I just keep thinking about what the voice told me.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰...
I look down at my stomach. It's usually pretty flat, but now it has a little curve to it.
"... what if the pregnancy test is false?"
"Oh my god, Basil." She walks over to me and gently puts her hands on my shoulders, "you are 𝐧𝐨𝐭 pregnant."
I waver in confidence.
She could obviously tell that I was unsure, because she rolls her eyes.
"Look. It's unlikely- no, almost 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 to get pregnant that way."
"Then why am I getting fatter?" Finally saying what I wanted to, I wince.
Polly frowns.
"... Basil. Is that what this is about? Your body is growing, changing even. Your weight is going to fluctuate too."
... Don't say it.
"Do we need to take you back-"
"NO!! I NEVER WANNA GO BACK TO THAT PLACE!!!" I cover my ears, randomly hearing his moaning again.
"... sorry I asked." She seems almost offended when she walks out of the room, looking back.
"I'll be at the store. Be safe, okay?"
I don't respond, instead, I turn away in defiance. Does that make me mean or rude or something? Probably.
She sighs, shutting my door.
I grunt, flopping back onto my bed.
My stomach throbs.
And I have no idea why.
