As we watch the winner get chosen for Blake's team, we are given microphones and also given finishing touches on our makeup. I am absolutely shaking with nerves, as I try to remember and run through the song on my own.
"Hey guys, come here," Anthony says motioning all of us over. "I just wanted to say that we're going to do awesome and that no matter what happens, I've had the greatest time of my life. We got this!" He smiles.
"Group hug!!" Claire squeaks as she throws her arms around me and Jamie.
We stay there hugging for a bit before Ginger/Chad comes up to us and shoos us towards the stage. "C'mon guys, you're up!" He whisper-yells at us. "You know where you're supposed to stand right?"
"Yeah yeah, we know." Jamie rolls his eyes.
"Okay go on when I tell you to." He says as the lights turn off.
We wait in the darkness for about three seconds until we hear him whisper, "Now."
Deep breath. Okay, let's go.
... (//A:N//: i do not want nor have the energy to rewrite the whole song out, so i shall not. :P)
We stand in our spots as the lights slowly turn on and the music starts.
I look up to see Niall and the rest of the judges smiling at us and listening intently. Then I look to my right and see Casey and Thomas there giving me a thumbs up.
I smile back and take a deep breath before my part. I am just going to sing what I've been practicing, taking in what Niall told me during our private, and just trying to feel comfortable singing with the group.
It felt amazing.
I truly had never known how it felt to feel comfortable on a stage with hundreds of people looking at you. A lot of people underestimate the saying 'There is strength in numbers', thinking that it only applies in a fight; but it really can apply whenever it is necessary. I think I like this singing thing.
I am all smiles and confident as we finish the song. The music stops and the audience applauds as we all turn to each other and smile. We give each other quick hugs before our attention is called to Mr. Carson Daly.
"Wow wow wow! Can I just say how amazing that performance was?! Niall, I don't know whether to congratulate you or pray for you because this is going to be a tough decision." Carson smiles endearingly at Niall who simply waves him off with a grimace. "Moving on! Judges, what do we have to say to these amazing performers? Let's start with you, Kelly."
Kelly smiled and clapped her hands, "O-M-Goodness that performance was everything. First off, Niall? Amazing song choice, we love Adele. Second, you all sounded amazing together. I completely forgot we were watching a battle, I was just content listening to all of your voices together. Pyper, it is like your voice mixes perfectly with Almighty and it is fantastic. Niall, I gotta tell you bud, I don't know how you're going to choose." She finishes, turning to Niall.
He sighs deeply, "Moving on then? Blake, what do we think?"
"Alright. Let me just say that you all did amazing, but let me praise my fellow judge here for a bit. Niall, I really loved the arrangement, and I absolutely adored the way you utilized each one of their different voices and tones. You did great son." Blake says looking at Niall. "Thanks, Dad." Niall jokes back making the audience laugh.
"Now Niall, although what you did with the coaching was really smart, you are kind of dumb for putting these acts against each other. They're both strong contenders by themselves, but now that you've put them together I have no clue who is going to win. I could find so many reasons why one or the other would win, but I wouldn't want it. So, good luck with that bud." Blake finishes.
"Jeez Niall, they're not helping you much." Carson Daly groans out. "Chance? You think you can help clear the air with Niall's decision?"
Chance looks at Carson, then looks at us, and then Niall before finally speaking up. "Niall, you're on your own man. I agree with Kelly and Blake, I think that this is the toughest decision you're ever going to make. You've really put this on yourself, and there's no way I can help you with this. Sorry man." He finishes before turning to us, "Oh, you guys did fantastic by the way."
"So, what do you have to say to your team, Mr. Niall Horan?" Carson finally asks Niall the question we've all been waiting for.
"Shit." Niall laughs out. "Ya know, when I was arranging these Battles I knew it was going to be a hard one. But I didn't know that it would be this hard. You all are really talented performers, and usually, I have a hard time choosing between the singers. But now, I'm not only doing that but I'm also dying because you sound so good together."
"Almighty, you guys always sound good together. I know it's rough having to add another voice to the mix, especially since you guys have been singing together for a while; but you managed it perfectly. I absolutely loved working with you guys this past week, I really enjoyed your work ethic and all of your different quirks and all that. You guys are a fun group." Niall laughed before turning to me.
"Pyper, I definitely noticed a change in you. When you originally told me that you felt much more comfortable singing with the group than on your own, I doubted it. I thought that you'd get over it and you just didn't have enough faith in yourself. But now that I've seen your performance, I can really see the difference. Your voice just fits perfectly with the rest of theirs, and you look much more confident on stage than your Blind Audition." He smiled at me.
Carson then cleared his throat, "So Niall, will you please let us know the winner of this Battle?"
Oh, dear God.
Niall took a deep breath before speaking, "I've been thinking about this over the past few rehearsals with you guys, and now I think I do know who the winner of this Battle is. I'm super proud of all of you, but the winner of this Battle is..."
