The crowd cheers and the judges rise as we finish our song. We had decided to sing What A Feeling by One Direction. Mainly because it sounded terrific, but also in hopes of swaying Niall's decision. Yes, we do play that way. Bite me.
"Everyone give a big hand to Almighty!" Carson said into his microphone. "Woo! Guys, what'd we think of that performance?"
"Personally, I love that you chose to sing a One Direction song. Bold choice, guys. It sounded amazing, and you obviously spent a lot of time coming up with the arrangement, it was so well thought out." Kelly said, "I don't know how to explain it but it just sounded full. Like, I didn't need to ask for anything else; it checked all the boxes. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I loved it!"
Yes, we stan a supportive queen. God, love her.
"I agree, I agree, I agree with that. It sounded great guys. I can't help but find it hard to believe that you all were just put into a group a week ago." Chance started, "Like, mind blown. If I'm being honest guys, I have nothing to say. Not a word, not a note, not anything! All I got is, it was a phenomenal performance. Great job!"
Oh my lord, maybe we did well.
Carson came up next to us. "Only good things to say about Almighty! Right, Blake?"
"Yes, I do agree that it was a great performance. But I just felt like I could have heard more from certain people in the group." Blake said. "It seemed like some of you only sang harmonies, which don't get me wrong is good but, I would love to hear your voices more. This is The Voice, I gotta at least be able to hear your individual voices guys. I know it's hard as a group sometimes, but I believe that's what would put y'all above the rest. Overall though, it was enjoyable. Good job all of you."
Jeez, be a bit more clear will ya?
"Alright alright alright, not everyone loved it. Niall? What do you want to say about your group?" Carson asked.
Oh dear God. Please tell me he at least liked it.
Niall looked at us for a bit, contemplating his answer. "I think you guys did really well. When you first sang that song to me during your rehearsals, the first thing I thought of was that it was my favorite out of all your other options. Now I may be a bit biased when I say this, but it is a great song. I thought it went really well with your voices, but I do appreciate what Blake said. I do feel like some of your voices weren't showcased in this song. Don't get me wrong I loved the arrangement you guys had, but I know from personal experience that being almost a background singer in a group doesn't feel great. And I know that all of you have great voices, believe me, you do. So if you make it past this round, I want you to think about what I've said for the future. Amazing job though, I'm very proud." Niall said.
"Alright! Thank you, Niall! Now Almighty if you would please take a seat over there, we have one more performance for Team Niall." Carson said, shooing us towards five empty seats.
We thanked the judges before quickly walking to our seats just as Carolyn stood up. I flashed her a smile and whispered a hushed good luck before sitting down.
The lights dimmed once more as Carson addressed the crowd, "Everyone, give a warm welcome to Ms. Carolyn Morgan!"
As the crowd cheers and the music starts, I grab the hand of the person to my left and give it a squeeze.
Something's got a hold of me lately.
No, I don't know myself anymore.
Carolyn starts singing. Her beautiful voice rings out.
Well, shit. She's singing Lose Control by Teddy Swims. And she sounds amazing.
The longer Carolyn continues with her performance, the more I feel my hope melt. There is absolutely no way that we can beat her. Just when we had already received a miracle, it's gone in the blink of an eye. What a waste of Niall creating a group. Still, I'm glad he-
The hand I am holding squeezes me tighter. I looked into Alex's face just as I hear it:
She voice cracked.
Damn.
